Funny, we have a ginger katty named "Wumpus". He showed up at our glass patio door a few years ago, with a mournful face, and eventually just moved in. We already had another ginger cat. Since the new one had a white face, we initially called him "White Face" to distinguish him from the other. Though I have no PC sensibilities, that just didn't seem like a proper name for a cat. After a while, "White Face" turned into "Wumpus", the name of the smelly cave denizen from the 1970s Adventure computer game.
Mairdie may know what I'm talking about.
>>Wumpus
Did play around very slightly with the Adventure game, but I’m really not a gamer so don’t remember Wumpus. We had a cat named Pussycat, and another, Error, because it was part of a 3 kitten litter where every kit was named for a word in the error message DRDL ERROR TPX. (Blame husband for that one. Also for the grey cat Cody, for Greycode’s Algorithm.) When I was studying Russian, one Border Collie was named Chorni (black) and the other Dyevooshka (can’t remember the proper English spelling from the Russian) for little girl. Now we just name pets for TV characters.
LOL about Wumpus the cat. Catty wumpus was a favorite saying of mother Dear.
