AGOURA HILLS, Calif. Clouds of thick black smoke have engulfed the picturesque California hillsides as wildfires ravage the state. Santa Ana wind gusts started to pick up in Southern California, putting people near the Woolsey Fire on edge. More than 83,000 acres have burned and at least 170 homes were wiped out.
Matt Armbruster survived the fire by hiding in a creek with his dog to stay safe. Armbruster was told to evacuate, but he didn't. When the fire looked like it was coming for his home, he panicked and headed to a nearby creek.
Armbruster stayed there for almost two hours as the fire burned around him. He admitted that he thought he would die there. He was reluctant to share his story because not only did he survive, but so did his house when many in the area are returning to devastation.
Oakland fires long ago a guy built his home from limestone and metal etc ... but built a round silo sort of limestone tower on his property that had a 3000 or 20,000 gal water storage tank in the center with pumps and generators inside connected to a satellite phone controller.
Also had his in ground swimming pool plumbed as a reserve source of water for his well thought out redneck engineered system .
He had landscaped his property to keep fuel for wildfires away . As the fires approached he made the call to his “off grid” wildfire system and it was the lone structure that survived in that area.
Was impressed ......
Dang it thats being Prepared ! I like it.
My Brother built His House underground. 10 thick concrete walls and Double Ts for the roof beams (like used on Highway a Overpasses) If You dont know where the door is You wont find it. Most that come looking for it/Him end up parking on top of it. And never know. Got a Tool Shed and a CarBoatport above ground. And the old Outhouse.
