Wyoming is pretty nice (especially politically) in a lot of ways. Lotta wind in some areas, though.

Idaho is really nice.

Tennessee...no income tax, ‘west’ of North Carolina, conservative.

Yep, Idaho just passed Prop 2, a big Medicaid expansion. That never would have happened in years past. Democrats have floats in the Coeur d’Alene Independence Day parade, voting registration booths at the County Fair, and presence all over. The Spokane and CdA newspapers are very red.

It is SO SAD to see Idaho transforming. The cancer used to be contained to Blaine County (Sun Valley), but it is spreading.

Southern Utah?

We have a family history here in Colorado, so after living in CA, CT, & OH (job related moves) we chose to retire here in CO. However we did consider Prescott, AZ & St. George, Utah., both strong candidates ... but opted for western CO.

“Texas? Maybe. But where don’t they have mass illegals and bugs and socialists? Maybe western Texas? “

If you want rural, northwest of San Antonio is good. Actually, San Antonio is good. That’s where I live. Good military town which means conservatives abound. Good religious setting
and great for kids. North San Antonio schools are good and we have some awesome colleges.

San Antonio has a huge Spur fan base, there is the Rampage for the American Hockey League (one below the NHL) and there is culture out the wazoo. And home prices are still reasonable. You can get a 4 br, 2 1/2 bath home in gated community for under 300k, with taxes for veterans around 5500 a year.

I moved from Seattle to rural KY and love it here. But if my wife and I were real ocean people it would be less positive. But we’re not. I get all the “big city” I want from Louisville and Nashville, but in the sticks it’s spectacular.

But it’s not a western state...

40 replies and not one person telling you to keep your blue state cooties to yourself! Impressive.

I always chuckle on these threads when people in Texas or wherever warm potential newcomers to leave their previous habits at the door, as if anyone on Freerepublic would bring a liberal mindset.

"Its the reverse Okies. High net-worth people and businesses loading up their possessions and fleeing a dustbowl of democratic-socialist destruction."

Excellent analysis! That could be a thesis for Doctorate degree. Of course, it would never be accepted by our Socialist professors.

I was waiting to find a post mentioning Tennessee!

No state tax and I understand they don’t tax pensions. Of course I also hear that 80 people per day are moving there, from..yes you guessed it, California, Seattle area, other lib places because the tech jobs are growing there.

Fort Worth - I am a native born, natural born Texan with Lone Star blood in my veins. I have lived on the Dallas side of the Metroplex all my life. If I were moving to Texas and wanted the benefits of big city life mixed with small town charm and love of God and country, I would absolutely, unequivocally move to Fort Worth. Fabulous city!!!

Western Montana. I was up there last winter, it’s obviously colder than Orange County but if you stay west of the Continental Divide, it’s somewhat moderate in winter and beautiful in summer.

What things do you like to do? Outdoor type things, or more like evenings out at nice restaurants? Does your wife (you said we) like to shop?

How often would you visit family? If it’s only a few times per year maybe you can move a bit further east, it’s a fun road trip or a fairly short flight.

I left OC and moved to Missouri, well west of the city of St Louis. It’s really pretty, I bought a home on 5 acres for 1/3 of what I sold my OC home for. I have working dogs, so having tons of options for training and competing here is awesome.

Arizona is politically dysfuctional lately, but overall it is right-leaning, anti-union, anti-nanny-state, and anti-tax.

Prescott in particular is in a lovely part of the state and is conservative. Overall, housing is affordable and the economy is booming right now. There are definitely more good jobs than qualified applicants.

$900,000 will buy you a REALLY nice house here in Arizona.

Idaho would be the only one to fit the bill as far as I can see.
