No worries, happens to the best of us. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve stuck my foot in my mouth I’d have enough cash to ditch New England and buy a nice spread in Texas :)

Southwest Washington or in the Oak Harbor, WA area which is the home of NAS Whidbey Island. Strong Navy community, You can find what you are looking for.

Sequim, WA only gets 9 inches of rain per year because it is in the Olympic mountains rain shadow.

In SW Washington, my older son has a 6000+ sf home in a development called Summer Hills. Fabulous views. In SW Washington, you can great a great home for around $450-500k. My younger son bought a great 4000 sf house for about $500k in a very nice neighborhood.

So clever.

Years ago, a friend and former roommate of mine got her public school administration degree and moved to the very northernmost Bronx, NY, which is quite suburban, not at all like the south Bronx, and got a job in Westchester County, which is just north of the north Bronx.

She got low rent (Bronx) and high income (Westcheser).

A smart kid from Minnesota!

Boulder City, Nevada, where I am for a few days, is also nice. It is safe and quiet and very western, but also right next to Vegas, in case you want a superlative restaurant once in a while. So small that it has no health-food store—maybe that says more than it seems—and also no cab service (you can always use Uber). It has a small hospital that does its job well.

People are great, very trusting of one another, especially compared with NYC, which is my home. Lots of space, lots of nice trees (palms and what look like cypress, and also some huge trees that probably needed artesian wells to get so big). People make their place attractive, in a desert sort of way. And of course you’re in the valley, with those majestic mountains to the east and west.

Sounds pretty good for people who just want to escape the city life and all the crime, etc.

Thank you all for your suggestions and info. After much discussion, the Wife and I are thinking Reno, NV. Yes, it’s turning blue, but for now it’s the most promising. Montana, Wyoming, North or South Dakotas are just to cold. Even Idaho catches the polar stream. Utah, not so much. No final decision made, but we’re talking to Realtors and researching.

No, I am not familiar with the southern Washington area. I have just heard that people will do as I stated to save on taxes two ways. The Columbia River (separating Washington and Oregon), the river gorge and the whole area look beautiful in pictures. There must be plenty of good towns and cities on the Washington side to choose from. Lots of wineries and farms in the area too.

Stevenson washington is nice. Along the Columbia near the Bridge of the Gods. No income tax in WA cross the river and shop in OR no sales tax. 45 miles east of Portland and less rain.
