Many are saying that this could be the best overall team that Nick Saban has ever assembled. That is not good news for opponents since Saban has assembled so many national championship teams.
So looking at the current top ten, what are the chances they realistically have to pose a problem to the Tide? Lets go in order of what this writer who has covered football for long thinks and well start in order of the teams with the worst chance.
Starting with number nine of the chart to topple the tide.
9. Michigan Currently the number 6 team in the nation, Michigan just doesnt have the defense to begin to slow the Tide. Theyre also undermanned on the offensive line and their Ole Miss transfer quarterback would be running for his life.
In total defense theyre 37th, in total offense theyre 80th. They could play Alabama 100 times and theyd lose all 100.
8. Texas Currently the number 7 team in the nation, the Longhorns are still growing from the ashes and dont have the depth to stand with Alabama through even one half of play.
Their team isnt even in the top one third of all teams in total defense, coming in at 49, so the Tide could hang 60 on them in total and easily be ahead 42- 6 by halftime. Their 65th rated offense would have trouble scoring on this team and if they managed more than 13, it would be a surprise.
They let a two loss Maryland team run all over them and Maryland lost to Temple. Alabama could play Texas 100 times and the Longhorns would lose all 100.
7. UCF Central Florida hasnt really played a lot of the big boys and theyve shown they have problems with some

UCF gave themselves the championship. They can suck it.
Nawww. LSWho? gets stomped by The Mississippi State University.
Alabama has an easy schedule. Look st the opponents do far....
Go Clemson!
Long time Bama fan here. I see LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, & Clemson being problems for Alabama.
Certainly not the sorry, low down, good for nuthin’, cheatin’, snitchin’ Vols! :)
Saban is a wealthy Catholic. Everybody knows that automatically makes you a Dim like being a slave owner. :)
It’s all about recruiting. He needed to endorse a Democrat, so he endorsed the least radical one he could find.
It’s because he’s a government employee, a large number of them are Democrats.
Bama is the most dominant team since the 1995 Nebraska team.
Ugh. So stupid.
Wut? How can the undeniably BEST time in college football (check the data and leave the emotion out of it) be overrated? They are rated exactly where they should be. RTR!
Adult language warning;
Manchin was a family friend of the Saban family while they were growing up in WV. Saban’s dad even coached him when he played youth sports. Manchin is a rare Blue Dog Democrat who is more conservative than most GOP in his neighboring state of Ohio. Even though he did vote to confirm Kavanaugh, I still hope he loses.
How can a team be overrated when they beat other teams (over five separate seasons) that they play in the BCS and College playoff system? You are letting your hatred over ride the thinking part of your brain.
Hmm....doesn’t include the following:
Navy has won one College Football National Championship in 1926 according to the Boand and Houlgate poll systems. The 1910 team also was undefeated and unscored upon (the lone tie being a 0-0 tie).
Even “back in the day” there was disagreement among the polls, ranking systems, etc
I hope you can do it!
I just learned an old friend is running for a spot locally as a Dem. Damn. Puts you in spot. But still going to vote red.
According to NCAA.org the graduation rate for Alabama football players was 84% for 2010, the most recent year for which statistics are available. That’s not the top of the class but hardly as bad as some here indicate.
