I’ve been in places where two urban language speakers were talking to each other, and could not understand a word. It’s amazing that they can understand it. It’s like a whole new dialect.
My wife is from Rhode Island and I’m from Georgia. When we first moved back to Georgia, I was trying to locate a business out in a rural area. I stopped and got out of the car to ask a young black boy for directions.
We talked a bit, then I got back in the car. My wife asked, “What language were you speaking?”
“English”, I replied.
“Both of you?”
“Yes.”
“I did not understand a word either of you spoke!”
(When traveling in foreign lands, it is best to learn the language of the local people!)
