Well, that’s nice.
I sat in a mechanical engineering class figuring out force vectors on a rivet in a construction crane boom using a slide rule as we were not allowed to use new technology.
Looking up from my work, bored to tears sliding out that useless task, I saw the instructor using an HP-64 handheld checking our work.
I thought about that long and hard, and at the end of that quarter went down to a pawn shop and traded my sliderule for a well fitting largish hammer mere mortals could barely lift, let alone apply with the finesse and accuracy that I was able to achieve.
I became the Destroyer of Worlds and the Adjuster of Attitudes, and that hammer has served me well all these years. When everything looks like a nail to an impatient mind, a hammer is a universal solution.
After discovering that I could grunt and point and my dog would go fetch the newspaper, I had limited use for language from that point onward.
Upon arriving at FR I have discovered that grunting and pointing was not as productive. Through a method known as cut and paste I have been able to piece together visual pictures of how the world should be.
Some remain that still do not understand.
I keep that hammer nearby if deemed necessary.
The rumble you hear could well be me trimming my toenails.
