Exactly my question. If the overall school population is majority-minority, what’s up with giving some priority to students from groups which are already a majority in the district?
or is this intended to “integrate” some schools which still have bigger than average numbers of white students?
According to the article, only 15% of the public school population is classed as “white” - meaning, I assume, of 100% European origin. Of course, many Hispanics would qualify, too, but apparently speaking Spanish disqualifies you - these lefties drive me crazy with their ethnic hair splitting.
What they want to do is lower or actually remove test scores and performance for admission to special programs or schools. Of course, this still means the majority students (which they erroneously refer to as minority students) will do badly because they simply won’t be able to do the work.
The left doesn’t believe that black or other non-European origin students are as good as “whites” and actually capable of learning and succeeding. That’s what this really says. Oh - except for Asians, whom the left doesn’t believe should be allowed to compete anyway because they study and do too well.
Good point. There are more people than ever before, who are mixed race/mixed ethnicity.
And what ever happened to Dr. King’s dream, not to judge by color of skin and all that?
If one’s ethnicity is not supposed to make any difference, then how is it that we focus so much in our society, on that subject?
More discrimination against whites and Asians. The Democrats are the true racists.
To simply: if you are white and can afford it send the kids to private school. If not, move.
NYC and similar cities are headed for Detroit Syndrome. Property values in NYC ate dropping like a brick. Time to get out.
What is probably really driving this project is a furious resentment that a few schools have sufficient neighborhood concentrations of white families to create a white oasis school. The powers that be in NYC want white people to realize that they are now a minority, and that no institution will be tolerated that is not majority non-white and culturally anti-white.
I have some relatives in NYC with young children. Hopefully they will be attending private schools.
What is a predominantly black kid? A predominately Hispanic kid? Are we talking of mixed race children that are more black and/or Hispanic than other races? That’s what it sounds like.
This is exactly what communism does...favors certain people over aptitude talent,ability or drive or preparedness.
And exactly how wrong communism is.
It goes against human nature and it necessitates a cadre or Better Than Thous to run the thing.
You all white folk in N.Y. Best watch your asses.
Pretty soon they will take your homes and property away to give to those not white.

Apparently, racism is perfectly okay as long as it discriminates against Whites and Asians.
If I’m reading the article correctly, NYC schools are only 15% white, how much more diverse can they get? Also, isn’t everyone who lives in the districts eligible? What ‘admissions’ are they talking about?
