After two consecutive seasons of falling television ratings, the NFL continues to face waning fan interest as a majority of Americans particularly whites and republicans object to players kneeling in protest of racism during the national anthem.
According to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, fewer people say they follow the league closely today than four years ago, and the biggest drop-off appears to be those fans who disagree with players demonstrating to raise awareness about social issues, criminal justice reform, and police brutality against minorities.
Of the 900 registered voters polled, 52 percent said they continue to follow the league closely, which is down from 58 percent in 2014. However, the margin of error was plus or minus 3.27 percentage points, so that figure in itself may not be too revealing.

The NFL tried to transform itself from an entertaining diversion during the 60’s and 70’s to a national religion in the 90’s and beyond. I’m sorry but we can all live without pro football.
I am loyal to my college football team, but never understood this rabid fanaticism with guys hired to play football. The anthem protests just capped it off.
I always thought it was basically a military-inspired game. Even if one does not know all the rules, one can easily grasp that two "armies" are on the field and that one attacks while the other defends. It is not nearly as complex as say, baseball, in which the players do essentially abstract things that have no bearing on what one would do in life. But the attack/defend/military aspect of football is viscerally exciting and thrilling. At least it used to be.
These ungrateful, PC Pink, black racist, "hate whitey", hate law enforcement, hate the U.S. military, hate Christians, hate the fans, hate the country thug nfl commissioner, owners, managers and players strangled it to death with their own hands, and permanently killed the nfl fan base goose that laid all of those billion dollar eggs, and we are NEVER coming back!
The national felon league can rot.
Ditto for our entire, now former, die hard national felon league fan family. The anti-American nfl is dead.
Face it, the owners, managers and players literally hate you. All they really care about is taking your money while they habitually spit in your face and urinate on the country, anthem and flag.
The national felon league can rot!
I found it interesting that the article does not capitalized Republican or Democrat. I wonder if they call the Tories tories or their Conservative party the conservatives.
Odell Beckham is the highest paid receiver in the league and for good reasons. He is a superb athlete who makes impossible catches...and still feels oppressed.
In deference to his ego, the shark jumps Odell.
Yep that is my football day. Sundays are nap time and things with the family after church. I always enjoy watching SEC football. The America hating NFL can eat crap and die!
What a concept !
(btw, dieNFLdie)
Even my wife, who used to live for the eagles games, is fed up now and has declared she will not watch because of these clowns who will not stand properly for the anthem. I started not watching last year and it continues because of this silliness.
Packers shut him down last year, maybe he was injured.
You can leave out the part about education.
Perhaps NBC needs to do an in depth investigation into the criminal activity of NFL players . The fact is
that the entire NFL has become completely infested with felony criminals. The League Owners pay-off *(bribe)
police and courts to expunge criminal records of the star NFL thugs , oops I mean performers, ooops I mean ... gangsters, ooops I mean wife beaters, ooops I mean drug addicts ...oops I mean low brow knuckle dragging prancing pretty boys in Lycra skin tight costumes. Oops I mean anti-American brainwashed racists.... Yeah That’s The Ticket, leftist zombie racist thugs
I was talking about the 5%. I would hope that percent will increase once the NFL fully becomes the clown show it was 80 odd years ago.
I didn’t know it was even around 80 years ago.
.
There was a movie about it, don’t recall the title. This was the era when the Rooney family acquired the Pittsburgh Steelers for party sum of money to settle a poker game debt, or so the legend goes.
