The church threatens the victim (you'l go to hell, your parents will die, your parents will get divorced). I fhte parents get involved, they are told the image of the church is at stake. I'm certain that is effective against some - they are taugh that the church is the body of Christ working its mysteries in today's world. Church canon law is to protect child abuse with secrecy.
Same thing works in Hollywood, but without the religious sticks and carrots. Secular sticks and carrots work too, depends on the mental condition of the victim and any parents or guardians.
AND, same rule applies oin government operated Child Protective Services. Abuses are covered up with vigor. The reputation of the institution is at stake.
