So I get that he didn’t actually fire fire her, he let her go when her assignment was over, making it very clear he was not satisfied with her performance or character.
My guess is... she was a gunner. One of those 26 year old pip-squeaks who come in and know everything listen to nothing, but somehow know who to kiss up to and who to piss down on. One of those ones who would run over their own grandma to get ahead.
