House of Chan Update!

There is no House of Chan update. I’ve taken a break with my bride to celebrate our anniversary all weekend long. I’m not saying I told Q to hold the drops, but they did. And we had a great weekend of lounging around that ended with Mrs. Kit getting diamonds and sapphires. Mrs. Kit is a Valkyrie but she vies for my attention against you passel of online Patriots.

Just to show I haven’t been totally lazy, I will offer up an essay for you. Please feel free to copy and paste at your leisure. It is meant to describe what we’re all grappling with.

Premise.
Is there a ‘Swamp’? Is our government corrupted by money and power that transcends generations of so-called leadership?

Are there political families and hangers-on that have been enriched through insider business deals and even conflicts? Wars?

How do we, as citizens, explain the fact that our ‘representatives’ and government leadership enter public service paupers and become multi-millionaires?

Don’t we look down on other nations and cultures that pass down political power and riches through their families and hereditary relations? Those who have inherited rather than earned their riches?

How do we hold up as heroes anyone whose name is Kennedy, Bush, Clinton? Did our Founding Fathers intend that we citizens would shake off royal ties in exchange for dynastic political power?

Background.
In late October, 2017, someone with evident insider access or knowledge of the Trump administration starting posting on a website called 4Chan (complete web address deliberately omitted). In early November 2017, this poster moved to another website called 8Chan and began using three particular monikers including “Q Clearance Patriot”.

A Q-Level security clearance is historically the highest echelon of U.S. clearances with access to (possibly) all security compartments, national capabilities and national strategy. Only a few top government officials have this type of clearance for information. Some in the White House, the President, maybe the Vice President, and some select (not all) Cabinet officials, not even all senior military commanders have this clearance.

(sidenote) The two facets of gaining a clearance and access to classified information are: 1) being granted an appropriate level clearance after a background check and, 2) demonstrating a required need-to-know for the information. The higher the clearance, the more detailed the background check will be. But having a high clearance (e.g. Top Secret) does not mean the individual has a need-to-know.

Frequently in government offices, some employees may have need-to-know while others do not. This means, even in the most secure facilities, employees sitting next to each other may not be able to talk to each other about what they’re working on. They may all have the same level clearance, but they don’t have ‘need-to-know’ to various compartments of intelligence.

By December, “Q Clearance Patriot” moniker had become simply, “Q”. This poster, Q, established on numerous occasions that the information being provided through the Q posts, or “drops”, were tied directly to President Trump and/or his inner circle. Some Q drops said precisely what POTUS (President of the United States – i.e. Donald Trump) Tweeted minutes later. Other Q drops explained unexplainable things in Trump’s Tweets after the fact (e.g. “+++”, mis-spellings, unusual timing, etc.). All of these things added up to the mathematical probability that Q was in the inner circle of the President. In other words, Q works closely with the President, at a minimum (that’s probably an understatement).

Since the beginning (Oct/Nov 2017) Q drops encouraged people to research, absorb information, connect dots, and share the information. Around December 2017, Q began using a Socratic method in the drops to inspire the “autists” on 8Chan to do Internet digging of questions and answers not apparent in the mainstream media. An “autist” is an Internet slang term on the “Chans” for people who research and provide information to the chat board anonymously. They self-identify as “autists”, loosely described as someone who can become focused entirely on a question and not stop digging until they find the answer, often in creative ways of thinking. On the Chans, people simply refer to each other as “Anons” (short for anonymous).

The various Chans webpages are bulletin boards with numerous sub-boards that tout themselves as bastions of free speech. And they pretty much are. There are few restrictions and the Chan boards really are a bastion of free speech. Specifically, kiddie porn and direct planning or calls to violence are highly prohibited and deleted fast if anyone posts such stuff. Short of that, one can find pretty much anything else. Racism (from all sides), anti-Semitism, porn, ideological appeals (right and left), basic conversation, hobby stuff, whatever.

Another trait of the Chans is harsh language. A ‘fag’ on the boards is probably an acronym lost to time, but nothing sexual. On the Chans, you’ll see references to fags: newfag, codefag, phonefag, engineerfag, and on and on. With the exception of newfag, which is a derisive term describing someone who is new to the boards and not posting in accordance with manifested tradition; the other fags generally describe someone’s specialty. Since most of the board postings are done anonymously, the self-identifying of a ‘...fag’ indicates that someone has knowledge of that area.

What you don’t want to be is a ‘namefag’. A namefag is someone who hasn’t properly concealed their identity on their posts, or someone who wishes to be identified for personal recognition – either identifying themselves by name or leaving indicators such as an email address that could potentially identify who they are. That’s called ‘self-doxxing’ – in other words providing documentary or electronic evidence of who is posting. Doxxing can be offensively done to identify someone who one wishes harm to those that otherwise don’t wish to be identified (a favorite tactic of the left totalitarians). Doxxing can be self-inflicted when someone doesn’t take appropriate measures to protect their identity. Offensive doxxing is like communists who wish to identify non-believers or anyone perceived to be detrimental to the cause.

Q has gone to great lengths to protect identities of the Q group. Security drove the transfer from 4Chan to 8Chan. On 8Chan, Q has their own special board for posting, but Q also posts in response to the researchers’ comments on the main Chan.

The bottom line is that Q has established bona fides as being someone who is nurturing wide social media and collective intellect to accomplish the stated goals of President Trump.

Where we were.
Donald Trump is a billionaire. He doesn’t have active military service. He’s not a war hero. Granted, he had some seed money from his daddy back when he started (a million dollar trust), but he didn’t have a name like McCain, Kennedy, Pelosi, Clinton or Bush, to name a few. He earned his bones in Real Estate in one of the most hostile and complicated places to do business – New York. He’s dealt with the mob, he’s dealt with unions (but I repeat myself), he’s dealt with byzantine bureaucracy, he’s a businessman. He’s done all this and created jobs. He still remembers where he came from visiting these construction sites and so on.

He did reality TV. He knows how important people are. All people. He’s quietly taken care of people in need. Despite arrogance (a penthouse done in gold, really?) he pays attention to anyone and doesn’t categorize anyone. No blinders, no patronizing. He doesn’t care if you’re a man, women, white, black, tan, yellow – he only cares about how well you can do what you say what you can do. Whether that’s a bricklayer, accountant, broker, or ditch digger.

So why did Donald Trump run for President? He’s donated to democrats and republicans in the past. He’s really non-partisan when it comes to his history. What has he demonstrated? He loves this country and he’s willing, able, and enthused, to see others succeed. Unlike many others of our political elite, he doesn’t care if someone else is a billionaire too. Many of our political and social leaders talk about the ‘poor’ – but they are millionaires or billionaires and do nothing of substance to allow others into their elite club. Donald Trump has been outside the club, and largely apolitical, forever.

He has negotiated with the toughest. He’s focused on the objective – and this is a matter of record. Whether the objective is building apartments, or a casino, or a vacant lot that could be developed, or improving our country. It doesn’t matter to him.

So why did Donald Trump run for President? He was and is a total outsider. He was on the periphery of politics as necessary to promote his businesses. He’s seen it all. He’s a member of the billionaire’s club, but he’s still an outsider. He is rejected from both right and left. Why?

He put himself and his family at great personal risk. Even before inauguration, he and his family faced extraordinary threats. The national media and political groups form his opposition and have encouraged killing him – flat out. Even some of the elected Congressional members (I refuse to call them our ‘Representatives’) have outright called for his assassination, with no repercussions.

Why has he done this? He promised to drain the swamp. Now he is the elected leader of the United States. He is opposed by the left and the right and the media. The media used to be powerful and viewed as an unbiased voice in our republic. Now, every hour every day they lead with stories to cast this presidency in a negative light.

Where we are.
President Trump has implemented positive economic domestic policies, and promised hope, for our nation. At the end of his first year, he has presided over historic growth in GNP numbers, against all the ‘educated’ professors who said it couldn’t be done. Unemployment numbers are at perfect economic norms – around 4-5% which indicates normal economic activity. Unemployment for African-Americans is at historic lows. Ever. Unemployment for Hispanic citizens is at historic lows. IF he is a racist, how come we are experiencing these conditions? This isn’t an accident.

The Great African-American President sent bad economic numbers into historic highs. More Blacks, more Hispanics, were unemployed at the end of Obama’s reign than ever before. More were dependent on government aid than before – whether White, Black, Hispanic. Ever. How were Obama’s policies better in eight years than Trump’s have been in one? President Obama dropped these employment numbers to historic levels: labor participation, Black unemployment, Hispanic unemployment – ensuring that non-white citizens were kept at the bottom of the economic ladder. President Trump is reversing this through his policies.

It’s okay to acknowledge that this President is working to build a better country. He’s a builder. He doesn’t really have a “D” or an “R” behind his name. More appropriately, he has an “A” for America. He’s done things that piss of the right, and that piss off the left. Let’s support him as someone who only has an “A” behind his Presidency.

Drain the Swamp.
If we accept that President Trump is an outsider to politics, savvy in building and business, rejected not only by the democrats, but also his own party, shouldn’t we give him a chance to succeed regardless of political affiliation? He promised to drain the swamp. We know he’s seen the Swamp.

Indications are that some senior military Patriots, and others, encouraged him to run for President. He was a neutral player in the Big Scene, so this makes sense. He beat a host of Washington insiders because he appealed to the people – Americans.

Between January 2017, and May 2018, some amazing things have happened. Taken as a whole, it bears recognition even though the mainstream media isn’t covering it.

- There have been thousands (over six thousand) of arrests of pedophiles and human traffickers nationwide in just one year; this is about seven to eight times the arrests during President Obama’s annual average of 300-400. What changed? The new administration let law enforcement do their thing. Were these pedophiles and human traffickers not there for eight years?

- Since October 2017 to May 2018 there have been registered over 30,000 sealed indictments filed with Federal prosecutors across the country. For the past twenty years the average was about 1,000 annually nationwide. This is about a thirty-fold increase in sealed indictments in Federal courts.

- President Trump signed an Executive Order in December 2017 authorizing confiscation of assets for any person or business that was involved in nefarious activities including corruption, bribery, human trafficking, and other things, across international borders.

- Coincident with the Executive Order, our ally Saudi Arabia conducted a corruption crackdown that ensnared Al-Waleed bin Talal and many others. Al-Waleed is a senior prince in the House of Saud connected to funding Al Qaeda and a sponsor of a foreign student in the United States named Barak Hussein Obama. Al-Waleed was the one who offered ten million dollars to New York following the 9-11 attack. Mayor Guilliani rejected the money. In the years subsequent, it has become evident that Al-Waleed helped fund bin-Laden’s group to attack the United States.

What does “Red Pill” mean?
This goes back to the movie “The Matrix” from 1999. In that movie, the hero is offered the choice of taking a red pill or a blue pill. Taking the blue pill means staying with the status quo, the normal life. Taking the red pill means seeing reality and truth. Bitter though it may be, the red pill offers unvarnished truth of reality.

Q-Drops summary. Be ready for a Big Red Pill.

Here it is:
- there exists a cabal of power-people across the globe that has existed since ancient times who wield influence today through money, power and influence, for morally evil reasons.
- this cabal exists in a pyramid-fashion with acolytes at the bottom who are drawn up in the pyramid with the enticement of money/power/influence; at the top of the pyramid exist the oldest (and most evil) patrons and matrons of the movement.
- this movement crosses political and ideological boundaries as its members have been encouraged to infiltrate and rise to the top of any and every influential movement/organization/belief/religion; and especially crosses ethnic boundaries. Ethnicities such as Blacks, Hispanics and Asians, appear to be at lower levels of the pyramid of power. Perhaps either regionally aligned (Europe, North America, Africa, Asia) or only used as tool by the whites who exist at the top of the movement.
- This cabal, or movement, is satanic or luciferian in nature (these are two different things but the distinctions are not apparent to me). In the bible there are references to moloch and baal and these are the roots of this movement. The characteristics of these worshippers are child sacrifice and ceremony.

Eat the Red Pill or the Blue one. We have a choice. I incline for the red one. I want truth, brotherhood and equality.

The Blue Pill status quo offers division, racism, and hatred. On the news every day.

I’d rather we loved each other as brothers and sisters of a giant family of humanity. Pray for Peace and Love.

I read the R post at the top of the Twitter you linked.

FWIW: I don’t find ‘R’ at all believable. John Kennedy had just married and expected to assume office. Kennedy didn’t have the background/capabilities of Q, neither did Rory.
R writes that he/she and Trump got together and planned when in fact they would have needed the NSA and others (e.g., military strategists) of vastly different capabilities than those elites in combination.

John Kennedy was a dynasty seeker - not a team player and Rory is a documentarian. Both Kennedy’s were well educated. ‘R’s writing is not ivy league at all. ‘R’ makes punctuation errors (e.g., grey’s) and writes without literary form his/her family expected (”caught on” and “caught on NSA”). John grandmother took him to task for one error in a speech he gave - he’d never write the way ‘R’ writes; Rory could hardly be expected to write so poorly in her career.

Q/Trump never needed ‘R’ when they began and there’s no strategic advantage in adding him/her now. In fact, Q is directing our attention to the unfolding of the grand strategy re our government swamp. Now is not the time for an ‘R’ or anything he/she might claim to add. Trump is winning hearts and minds. So, I believe ‘R’ is a larp, likely a destructive one, although it may just be sport/ego larper at play

I decided to honey-dip lurk over at DU (2 of my 12 uncles were plumbers and they let me “help”). Found humor, of course, but some of the posts were concerning.

Someone who has completed an 8 part study of voter fraud provided a link to the first two parts and gave his conclusion. Since 2004, there has been massive R fraud at every level. OH in ’04, 44 shoulda won in two landslides. It’s the machines all controlled by RWers. I downloaded part 1 but haven’t studied it yet. The comments were from the congregation and raised additional concerns about Putin’s expected meddling.

According to the exec director of Raices, an “immigrant” law firm diddling down in Texas, 45 is causing chaos at the border. Guess any future chaos will be 45’s fault. How convenient.

Sarah and the Red Hen. There was a screed addressed to her warning about what kitchens may do to her food in the future. Commenters agreed in their usual style. No mention of the repercussions the restaurant is experiencing. There was also a thread recommending shunning and refusing service to Fox news people in NYC. They are high on this tactic, power to the people and all that. And they are thrilled with 50 states of protest at the end of the month.

“Frightening times we are living in, my friends. And probably about to get a lot worse. The manure is getting very close to the fan.” I think I read the equivalent here earlier, but that one wasn’t titled French Revolution—American Style. Fantasies of guillotines and upside-down hangings abound. Yes, they are arm-chair deluded. But according to their playbook, since nothing else works, what else can the Resistance do but Arise?

Then I found a thread that made me pour some Irish. Topic: Black views on Immigration. It was a semi-long thread not always staying on-topic (human trait, I’d say). There was a poll revealing a majority desire among blacks (”a critical voting block”) to curb immigration. “In case you haven’t noticed, Trump is reaching out to AA voters.” The response to that was no, he isn’t (this was a high-count poster). One post noted after an ICE raid, some business had to hire AAs at $4/hr more.

This post made me smile:

“I really think Trump is going to legalize marijuana, and then pardon a s***load of people currently in jail, most of them black.

Basically what the African American community has been asking for for decades. And he’ll market it to whites / conservatives as a cost saving measure and getting non-violent petty criminals out of jail. This will also instantly shed his “racist” label.

Those people cut loose will then be allowed to vote, and how hard is it going to be to vote against someone who gave you or your family members their lives back?”

Then there was pushback, alternate polls, how the racist is pitting the black against the brown once more. There was only one poster that I could identify as black and that person had a mother who loved 45’s immigration policies.

The last response was from a newbie (15 posts) and I suspect…well, you decide.

Amusement aside, I was disturbed by the mood there and I’ve lurked there for a long time. If politics is downstream from culture, the political battles expanded into the culture wars long ago (see Pat B ’92 convention). We’ve been losing and we’ve eaten schiff for decades, never knowing these days would come. But the pendulum has mightily reversed course.

Humility is only one of the many words the other side doesn’t know. Now they want in-your-face confrontations. My sense was that they are psyched-up and clueless. That’s a dangerous combination, in view of the revelations to come.

Another human trait is the tendency to only see what you believe. We’ve been awakened over many months, our task is to help the normies adjust to the changed world-view in a shorter amount of time. The PTB and their attendant crazies will not go quietly away and they are hardly receptive to communication. In a lot of ways, Ayn certainly called it. I doubt we’ll be passive observers/investigators much longer.

Our revolution was against an early multi-national and a non-representative government. Our founders fought the British and a third of their countrymen. They crafted a contract for a new form of government to be staffed by rotating citizens, not the family affair we’ve allowed to become entrenched. Those DWEMs pledged their lives and honor to change history. It’s time to renew our vows.

I’d better explain how I found him. Wilton House is near my parents’ home, so I often used to take the children there for its excellent adventure playground and a quick whirl around the paintings. I dimly noted that it belonged to the Earl of Pembroke, so I WAS INTRIGUED TO LEARN THAT THE EARL OF PEMBROKE WAS BETTER KNOWN AS THE FILM DIRECTOR HENRY HERBERT, WHO DIRECTED KOO STARK IN THE NOTORIOUS SOFT PORN FILM EMILY, WHICH PUT PAID TO HER CHANCES WITH THE DUKE OF YORK.

So when my editor said, ‘Fancy interviewing any aristocrats?’ I thought, ‘Oh yes, Earl of Pembroke’, and wrote to him at Wilton. I was a little surprised to get an email back signed Will, and from the email address skitobefree. I should have remembered that of course earls die like everyone else, and Debretts confirmed that the 17TH EARL DIED IN OCTOBER 2003 AND WAS DULY SUCCEEDED BY HIS SON WILLIAM. UNFORTUNATELY, I KNEW NOTHING WHATSOEVER ABOUT THIS NEW EARL - EVEN THE INTERNET AND CUTTINGS LIBRARY DREW A BLANK - SO I ASKED HIM TO EMAIL ME A LIST OF HIS INTERESTS. I READ IT WITH A SINKING HEART - SKIING, SNOWBOARDING, SCUBA DIVING, PARAGLIDING AND FAST CARS.

HOWEVER, THERE WAS SOMETHING ELSE IN HIS EMAIL THAT REALLY MADE ME SIT UP. HE REQUESTED THAT HIS SISTER SHOULD TAKE THE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR THE ARTICLE AND THAT HE SHOULD HAVE A STYLIST. NOW SISTER AS PHOTOGRAPHER IS A REASONABLE REQUEST - ESPECIALLY AS HIS SISTER, KATINKA HERBERT, IS QUITE A WELL-KNOWN PHOTOGRAPHER - BUT A STYLIST! POP stars have stylists; actors, television presenters, people who rely on their looks for their career have stylists (though they usually bring their own), but for an unknown to demand one is truly unprecedented. But anyway, we agreed to the stylist, to make up for saying no to the sister (we wanted Harry Borden), but then the next day he emailed again demanding copy approval. What cheek! Again, you expect people like Nicole Kidman or Madonna to demand copy approval (though they never get it from The Observer), but you don’t expect the request from complete unknowns. I decided he must be the vainest, most up-himself young man I had ever encountered. Anyway, I wrote back briskly ‘no copy approval’ - and proceeded to Wilton. Where this gorgeous vision met my eyes.

The 18th Earl is tall (over 6ft), thin but not weedy, and with the most beautiful blue-green eyes imaginable. And nice with it, polite, modest, friendly, charming. He doesn’t bray like a hooray Henry, he has a rather quiet, diffident voice with a hint of northern vowels. He insists I call him Will - everyone does, he says. He leads me through a maze of corridors to his sitting-room and again - wow! A shimmering gold and white room at least 80ft long, with fabulous antique furniture and two seriously good Joshua Reynoldses on either side of the fireplace. I have been in other stately homes - Althorp springs to mind - where the public rooms are opulent, but the private quarters are a disappointment - but Wilton is not of that type. The room is incredibly grand, but it also has the feel of a bachelor flat, with its clutter of car magazines, tapes, CDs, a huge flatscreen television and dog toys all over the floor. It looks out over the lawns of Wilton, but is hidden from the public.

‘This is the first time I’ve ever been interviewed,’ the Earl confesses shyly and I almost laugh aloud. Of course, I should have guessed it. All his silly requests for a stylist and copy approval - which I took for self-importance - were actually a mark of his inexperience. His photographer sister probably told him that people ‘always’ ask for stylists and copy approval, so he did as she advised, without a clue what it meant. I mutter a silent apology for so misjudging him.

His Father Remarried And Had Three More Daughters, Whom Will Refers To As His Little Sisters, And Clearly Adores. He Says Proudly That They Are All ‘Straight-A Students’, Which He Never Was. He Was Educated At Bryanston And Loved It, But His Talents Were For Art And Design Rather Than Academic Subjects. In fact, all the students at his college were northerners: ‘I was the only person from south of Leeds and, even worse than that, I’d been at public school so I was a real southern fairy. It was a bit tricky that first year - I really learned to bite my tongue. But it got easier after that and then after two years in Leeds I went to do my degree in Sheffield and I absolutely loved it. Sheffield is great fun - it’s not pretentious, everyone’s on the same level, everyone chats to everyone, it’s just friendly and open and easy.’

His best friends are still those he made at university - he had a taste of the Tatler crowd when he first came to London, but says ‘I felt really awkward around them. There always seems to be a lot of attitude and you go to a club and it’s £50 to get in and people are spending £600 or even £1,000 on a bottle of champagne. I mean - come on! I’m not into that London social scene at all. I just enjoy being with my old friends from university. They don’t have stately homes or castles, but they’re great company and I know they’re proper friends.’

Will spent four years at Sheffield Hallam University studying industrial design and ended up with a first. ‘That was probably the happiest day of my life!’ he grins. ‘Because that morning I’d had my offer accepted for my flat in London, then I got a train up from London, went to a Honda garage and picked up my new car, drove my new car to university, picked up my results - and got a first! I was in floods of tears, it was all a bit much. And my dad was absolutely ecstatic. I was the first person in our family to have got a first and it gave me this huge confidence boost, because I thought, Well, perhaps I am actually quite good at this.”’

With his new confidence, he went to show Sebastian Conran (Sir Terence’s son, and director of Conran Design) his portfolio. Conran was impressed and took him on for a four-month trial and then a proper contract. ‘So I proved myself, I didn’t get the job just like that.’ And he loved it. He was there for a year and a half, designing everything from bathroom scales to toasters, and he is very excited that some of the products he designed will be in the shops soon.

But meanwhile, his father was losing his battle with cancer and, in October 2003, he died. Will Herbert, junior Conran employee, was suddenly the 18th Earl of Pembroke and owner of Wilton, in charge of 72 full-time staff and 50 contract workers. His father had not really prepared him. ‘He wasn’t great at telling me what was going on. He inherited at the same age as me, or maybe a bit younger, and I think he felt it disrupted his life. He wanted to keep me slightly away from things here.’

After his father’s death there was a limbo period, so he carried on working in London, coming down to Wilton at weekends. ‘I suppose I was a little bit scared of coming down here and facing it, and I was still really enjoying my London life, but bit by bit I started coming down here more, and getting to know the staff, and it got easier and easier.’ So last October he took the plunge - left his job at Conran and moved full-time to Wilton.

HIS FIRST WINTER IN THE HOUSE WAS TERRIBLY LONELY. HIS SISTERS AND VARIOUS MEMBERS OF STAFF LIVE NEARBY ON THE ESTATE, BUT THERE ARE NO LIVE-IN STAFF AND THE HOUSE IS - EVEN HE ADMITS - RATHER LARGE FOR ONE OCCUPANT. IT HAS MORE THAN 20 BEDROOMS, BUT HE STAYED IN THE FAMILIAR BEDROOM HE’D HAD AS A BOY AND COUNTED THE 260 STEPS EVERY NIGHT HE WENT TO BED. SO THEN HE THOUGHT ‘BETTER GET A DOG’, AND ACQUIRED TATE, A STARTLINGLY UGLY LURCHER NAMED AFTER HIS GRANDMOTHER’S FAMILY, WHO MADE A FORTUNE IN SUGAR AND BUILT THE TATE GALLERY. TATE SPENT MOST OF THE INTERVIEW BITING MY HANDS - ‘JUST A NIBBLE!’ ACCORDING TO WILL - WHILE I QUIETLY TRIED TO STRANGLE HIM.

Will thinks his career as a product designer is probably over. He wishes he could have had more time to establish himself before his father died, but he accepts that, now, Wilton comes first. ‘I don’t want to live in London full-time again. It’s great fun when you’re in the rat race and working flat out every day and meeting up with friends in the evening - it’s a real buzz. But it’s not healthy and it’s nicer in the countryside. I love this part of England; I was born and bred here. I FELT I WAS A CITY BOY BUT, COMING BACK - IT’S THE QUALITY OF LIFE. DOWN HERE I’VE GOT MY SISTERS CLOSE, AND MY DOG, AND IF I WANT TO GO FOR A WALK I CAN. I LIKE TO GET FRIENDS DOWN AS MUCH AS I CAN, THEN THE HOUSE REALLY COMES TO LIFE. IT’S WELL LIVED IN, I THINK, WELL LOVED.’

HE LIKES HAVING ‘A FEW FRIENDS’ TO STAY AT WEEKENDS (HIS IDEA OF A FEW IS 15 IT TURNS OUT), WHEN THEY ALL PLAY PAINTBALL IN THE WOODS. I ASKED IF HE COULD COOK AND HE SAID, WITH UNTYPICAL CONFIDENCE, ‘CAN I COOK? I’M A GREAT COOK! IN MY GAP YEAR I DID FIVE MONTHS AS A SKI CHALET HOST, RUNNING AN 18-BED CHALET, DOING A BIG COOKED BREAKFAST AND BAKING ALL THE CAKES AND DOING THREE-COURSE DINNERS AND CANAPES EVERY EVENING, SO YES, I’M PRETTY GOOD! COOKING IS NOT DIFFICULT AS LONG AS YOU’VE GOT SOME NICE INGREDIENTS, AND GARLIC, BUTTER AND CREAM.’ BUT THEN HE RATHER SPOILS THE EFFECT BY ADDING, ‘BUT I DO HAVE A CHEF HERE - HE COMES IN MOST DAYS TO COOK ME LUNCH OR SOMETHING.’

The house used to be a bustling place, full of servants and children, but now he says, ‘There’s a sort of limbo before I get married and have children.’ He is keen for that to happen as soon as possible: in fact it really has to happen as soon as possible. Five centuries of family history hang on his youthful shoulders. At present, HE IS THE LAST OF THE HERBERT LINE, AND IF HE DIES WITHOUT AN HEIR WILTON WILL PASS TO A COUSIN SO FAR REMOVED HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HIS NAME - ‘ONE OF THE FITZHERBERTS, I THINK, BUT I DON’T REALLY KNOW THAT BRANCH. I THINK MY BEST OPTION IS JUST TO STAY ALIVE!’

Unfortunately, he recently split up with his girlfriend so he needs to find a new one. Does he feel a real pressure to get married? ‘More than if I didn’t have Wilton. I mean, obviously I’ve known since I was born that I was going to take over Wilton and that I would have to get married and have a son. Which I’m perfectly happy about because I love kids. But my father had six daughters and only one son!’ Would he need to marry a rich wife? ‘No, I think it’s more important to marry someone that you actually really love and can stay married to for a long time.’ Would she have to be a girl of his own class? ‘I have no preference really. I once brought a girlfriend down here and I hadn’t told her where I lived - because you just feel a bit of an idiot if you say, “Oh by the way, I live in a stately home” - but when we got here I wished I had told her because she slightly freaked. But I always find it very important that the person doesn’t know where I live first - because some girls would just be after the house or title. But I think I’m a pretty good judge of character.’

The fact of his being the heir without a spare has had strange implications in his life. He would have dearly loved to try for a career as a racing driver, but it was impossible to insure his life in the face of all the death duties. Hence perhaps his attraction to dangerous sports - skiing and snowboarding and scuba diving and paragliding. He says they are not dangerous if you know what you’re doing and obey the rules, but perhaps he likes taking risks as big as he can afford. Most 27 year olds barely think about death, but he has to. He says sombrely, ‘One of the things I’ve noticed is that, taking black cabs, I never used to put on my seatbelt, but I always do now. I’m a lot more conscious of the effects of what would happen if I did die, so I just generally try to be more careful. That’s one of the reasons why I’ll never get a motorbike - they look fantastic fun and very exciting, but they are so dangerous.’

Instead, he contents himself with vroom-vroom cars. He and our photographer went into a car conversation that might as well have been in Tagalog, but ended with the Earl agreeing to drive his fave car, a Nissan Skyline, on to the lawn to have its photo taken, while I imagined all the gardeners and groundsmen quietly weeping into their watering cans. The car is absolutely hideous: Harry describes it as ‘a tweaked-up boy racer muscle car as featured in Grand Theft Auto, where they drive around picking up hookers - it’s the sort of car that trailer trash would buy.’ The Earl seems quite happy with this description, and adds that the Skyline is ‘very fast and furious’ and can do 190mph. When I ask if it cost a lot, he says, ‘Not too bad - about £32,000.’ HE IS ALSO BUILDING A CATERHAM KIT CAR WITH HELP FROM THE HEAD GARDENER.

After making Harry green with envy over his car, he then produces the same effect on me by asking if I would like to see his Tintoretto. It is a painting of Christ washing the disciples’ feet and is in one of the private back rooms, along with Old Master drawings by, among others, Holbein and Raphael. He says, regretfully, that he will probably have to open this room to the public, to avoid paying death duties on the art, but luckily it adjoins the public rooms and can be reached without invading his space.

But it is another room, the playroom, that really knocks me out. It contains two major Hockneys from the Sixties, as well as a wall of paintings by the eccentric Stephen Tennant, and a film poster for Emily. BUT WHAT IS REALLY JAW-DROPPING IS ALL THE GAMES KIT - A FULL-SIZE BILLIARD TABLE, A FULL-SIZE TRAMPOLINE, A TABLE TENNIS TABLE, A TABLE FOOTBALL GAME, RACKS OF FISHING RODS, GOLF CLUBS, TENNIS RACQUETS, PAINTBALL EQUIPMENT, AND ANY AMOUNT OF CHILDREN’S BIKES AND CARS. THE ROOM IS VAST AND BEAUTIFUL, AND WOULD BE A SHOWPIECE IN ANY OTHER HOUSE; BUT HOW BADLY WILTON NEEDS CHILDREN TO JUSTIFY ITS EXISTENCE.

The Earl is full of plans for the estate and has a new estate manager starting in a month’s time. Most of Wilton’s income at present comes from letting the 200-odd cottages and houses on the estate - and he wants to, if possible, extend Wilton’s land and property holdings. He also cherishes hopes of buying back some of the family treasures that have been dispersed over the decades - every time he goes to a museum he seems to come across some Pembroke portrait or artefact - most recently a Pembroke suit of armour in New York. He is not particularly keen to increase visitor numbers because they cause a lot of wear and tear on the house, but HE WANTS TO HAVE MORE HIGH-PAYING EVENTS, SUCH AS MADONNA’S WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY WHICH WAS HELD HERE, OR MORE FILMS, LIKE THE RECENT KEIRA KNIGHTLEY PRIDE AND PREJUDICE OR THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE, WHICH WERE MADE HERE. HE SEEMS CONFIDENT THAT HE CAN RESTORE WILTON’S FORTUNES AND ‘TAKE THE ESTATE INTO THE 21ST CENTURY’ - WHATEVER THAT MEANS.

Just as I am leaving, he digs out two glossy brochures from his pile of car magazines and says, ‘I always keep these close at hand, just to remind me that it can all go very wrong.’ These are two Sotheby’s catalogues of the recent sale of Easton Neston and its contents. Easton Neston, a beautiful Northamptonshire house built by Hawksmoor circa 1700, and never opened to the public, was the seat of the Hesketh Fermor family for over 300 years, until the current Lord Hesketh spent rather a lot on his passion for motor racing. It is a reminder that these great aristocratic fortunes, however vast, can still vanish in a single generation. ‘I went to Easton Neston to have a look around,’ says the 18th Earl, ‘and it almost broke my heart. It was tragic to see the whole collection being broken up and all the family portraits sold. So I keep those there to remind me that you can inherit an awful lot, but lose it all very quickly if you’re not careful.’ Now all he needs is a sensible wife.
