What will happen much sooner than the demographic shift, will be the collapse of the welfare state, as more boomers retire and stop paying taxes, and more tax-consumers are born.
How many babies will welfare moms produce, when they find out that there will be no more welfare money?
You are assuming that our uni-party government will sit idly by and allow that to happen.
There are a number of things that the government can try to prevent that from happening.
Raise the SS retirement age to 70 (or higher).
Confiscate 401K (and other retirement accounts) and roll them in to SS. This has been talked about for years.
Democrats are for these “solutions” because it saves SS and keeps the old people in their camp whenever they sing the battle cry “the Republicans want to kill Social Security”.
I am 5 years away from retirement and I pray that I make it before they do either of those things.
Since I read in the last few days that payments from SS will outstrip income this year I doubt that my prayers will be answered favorably.
