Unlike today's cars, a failed temperature sending unit would not shut down a '60s or '70s era domestic automobile. Now if it's a deserted stretch of road and your sweetie is sitting beside you, yeah the car may need a little time to cool off...

My mistake. It was the oil pressure sender.

Thinking back on it, I seem to recall that Ford required a 1 1/16 And GM required a 15/16.
