Hi Diana, I love musicals but certainly am not an expert. In spite of not liking Phantom, who was your favorite actor playing the Phantom? Who is your favorite Jean Valjean? Sierra Boggess is my favorite Christine.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen her in a movie, pretty sure I would have remembered.

(I don’t get out much...)

Good for her. Nothing wrong with being rich if you just be decent about it. LOL!

And if I saw her in a movie and I thought she was beautiful I wouldn't rush to see every other movie she made before or run to see her latest.

Hollywood exists on hype.

Take away the hype and all you have are the movies to stand on their own.

I first saw her in Mask of Zorro.
My heart flipped, WOW, what a beautiful woman.
IMO one of the most beautiful women ever.
Certainly in the top 5-10
Grace Kelly, Rhonda Fleming, .....
some others in the running, Greta Garbo, Linda Carter

I don't blame her for not apologizing for success. I don't envy her, either. She hit the jackpot. Good for her. To borrow from Thomas Jefferson, her success neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

I don’t like either of them, LOL! I saw one traveling Broadway troop of ‘Phantom’ in Chicago many years ago. Snore-fest! ;)

I’m not a Les Miserables fan, either.

I liked:

‘Wicked’
‘1776’ (I watch it every 4th of July weekend!)
‘Rent’
‘West Side Story’
‘Lion King’ (Really cool staging with the cast in the audience, a LOT!)
‘Jersey Boys’ (Seen numerous times!)
‘Joseph’ (Saw that locally with Donny Osmond *SQUEAL*)
‘Cats’ (Saw it in Chicago w/Betty Buckley - Superb!)
‘Chicago’ (of course!)
‘Oklahoma’ (Probably my favorite musical of all)
‘Carousel’
‘South Pacific’
‘Fiddler on the Roof’
‘My Fair Lady’
‘The Sound of Music’
‘The Producers’

I like the older musicals that I grew up with, obviously. But, for your sake I’ll TRY to see if I can sit through Les Mis again. Was the movie version any good? I could PROBABLY force myself to watch Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. ;)

And thanks for the reminder; I want to take Mom to see a musical sometime this season. She does costuming for a local theater group (40 years; She’s their Edith Head and Bob Mackie all rolled into one!) so it’s a nice break for her to just be sitting in the audience not worrying about any, ‘wardrobe malfunctions,’ LOL!

Should we be posting Maureen Dowd pics here?

This is CZJ’s greatest movie: Entrapment with Sean Connery.
This is the greatest movie scene:

I’ve tried being poor and ugly. Never had to apologize for it, though.

I love Les Mis but I HATED Russell Crowe as Javert in the movie, he has a lousy singing voice. He ruined the movie for me. Mel Gibson would have been a much better obsessed Javert, and he actually has a goos singing voice.

My favorite musicals: Les Miserables, Phantom, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, 1776, A Little Night Music, Oliver!, Man of La Mancha, Jesus Christ Superstar, I could go on and on LOL!

I don't claim to be any kind of thoroughly knowledgeable fan, but I do like them now and again: they seem to have been all the rage in the 1960s, before the 1970s and later befouled Hollywood's public offerings.

My heart goes all aflutter every time I watch Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady singing "I Could Have Danced All Night"...

And (see my screen name) naturally I was a big fan of Cats.

Have you a particular favorite?

(The Legendary Mrs. Whiskers agrees with me -- we both prefer dinner theatre/community theatre: probably a cost per show metric...)
