Since Phil is pretty close to last place, I was wondering why anyone cared about this. I wanted them to talk about the golfers who are in contention this week, and not worry about the players who were good 15 or 20 years ago.
It’s an “integrity of the game” issue. Another way of looking at it is that Phil, at 48, is more than old enough to have known better; but it’s his birthday, see, and he wants the spotlight instead of that new generation you and I favor.
Phil is still good. Maybe not this week - this course has been a very severe test for many players. Rickie Fowler shot eleven-over today! But Mickelson has already won once this year.
