As brand stunts go, IHOP has squeezed a decent amount of juice out of a teaser early last week indicating that the restaurant would change its name to IHOb.
IHOb ✔ @IHOb For 60 pancakin years, weve been IHOP. Now, were flippin our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHOb
Social media was aflutter with speculation, especially with the brands attempt to throw people off the scent with a poll on June 5 that stretched the limits of plausibility (butternut squash?).

There appeared to be a decent amount of stickiness and good-natured hijinx as Stephen Colbert picked up on the switch and, in what has become de rigeur, other brands decided to swoop in on the fun. There was even one possible intergenerational flap and several other chuckle-inducing moments (see, Twitter isnt that angry!).
Just what is this magical b you speak of, IHOPexcuse meIHOb? The smart social media money was on breakfast or brunch. After much ado about apparently something, today, the brand revealed that the name changeand the bstands for burgers.
The brand stunt includes changing store signage and the Twitter handle to IHOb, plus promoting the 60-year old breakfast chains new Ultimate Steakburgers offering, complete with seven varieties. Additionally, a Hollywood flagship IHOb restaurant will host a VIB launch party today.

So... no more pancakes?
Sad.
;)
Kind of reminds me of batfe or lgbtq LMNOP abc123.
I was hoping it was ‘breakfast’. There aren’t many places left where you can get a good breakfast all day. There are a zillion places where I can get a good burger.
This isn’t a good idea.
Thought for sure it would be “breakfast”
This will not end well..........................
Dumb. We don’t need another burger joint.
I assumed it would be “B = breakfast” or as another has said “B = Bacon”
Buggery?
If and when I go to IHOP, it is/was for PANCAKES. I would NEVER go their for burgers. Never. Too many other, established choices.
Besides, I don't think I've ever been in an IHOP after about 9 a.m. And my non-breakfast early morning eating is limited usually to leftovers (e.g., pizza).
And then they change it back for huge publicity stunt that must have sounded much better that day in the boardroom in 10...9....8....7...
There he is
IHOB HIJOB same chit
Dumb idea!
The could have promoted the burger menu without messing with their identity.
Absolutely. An upgraded, modernized breakfast menu all day would've been fantastic. Interesting banana and other breads, awesome pastries, healthy cereals, quiche, omelettes, souflees, designer drinks at McDs prizes. Nobody around here does that "home-style" or diner approach around here.
Burgers? Like we don’t already have enough choices for burgers? Let me see, within about 5 miles of my house we’ve got the major fast food burger franchises, plus Short Stop, BurgerFi, 1626 Burgers, In & Out, Dan’s Burgers, P. Terry’s Burgers, Cheddars (which has burgers on their menu), Whataburger - and that’s just off the top of my head.
I was a bit disappointed by that announcement. IHOP should have capitalized on being a breakfast pplace and really make a lot of money (restaurants that specialize in breakfast and lunch only are the new “hot” thing in the restaurant business).
Burgers and craft beer - that’s the ticket.
