Holly Mckenzie considered her family’s two pit bull dogs her “best friends,” having made memories over the past three years of walking them, playing with them, cuddling them and even sleeping in the same bed together.
On Sunday though, Mckenzie said it was like a switch went off in the normally “cuddly, sweet” dogs. The Norwalk woman said one minute she was petting them and the next she was fighting for her life as they literally tried to rip her apart.

My Amstaff was big for his breed at 70lbs.
Same thing happened to me when I was 4. Like an idiot, I jumped on my father’s sleeping Lab and I was rewarded with a damaged cheek and a torn ear. 50+ years later I regret my stupidity but am often reminded of the phrase “leave sleeping dogs alone”
Pit bulls are weaponized versions of any dog breed.
Many dogs can be temperamental and bite sometimes, pit bulls kill you. They will tear all of the skin off your body and start removing limbs in 10 seconds. When they snap, they are killing machines that can’t be stopped. Not fully domesticated as someone mentioned is the best way to describe them. They are like a trained tiger, they can be totally nice but if you do something incorrect, they snap back to wild animal mode. Like Siegfried and Roy’s incident. They had tigers trained like pets for decades and then, snap!
I read articles like this with a sense of the unreal. For over 65 years I’ve had pets, usually a dogand a cat or two. When playing, border collies will nip, when they are young and incompletely trained. That’s it, the whole of my experience with “viscous” dogs. Gentle and patient training works. The dog on my lap currently agrees. (A terrier mix)
I love dogs. BUT now I always carry pepper spray on runs/walks. I’ve had to spray a few in the past.
I reckon any breed can “snap”. The problem with pit bulls is they can kill you when they do.
My niece’s pit mix was a sweet boy, never got into trouble, and got along with everyone. We were all sad when he died. Did I trust him? Not really.
It’s like German Shepherd dogs: some breeds have just been ruined.

Sounds like the idiot owner of a local Husky that was recently caught on video killing 27 animals (cat, ducks, rabbits, chickens, etc..) who actually said “he’s not like that”. If it hadn’t been caught on video i’m sure she would have insisted her mutt wasn’t the perp.
Pit bulls are just not meant to be companion animals. As much as I am for freedom of choice they should be banned. There are a million breeds of dogs to choose from.
If you just must have a pit bull looking dog get a dogo argentino. They look like a large pit bull but the mean has been bred out of them.
Yep. Pit Bulls attacking my lab puppy are what finally motivated me to get my ccw and carry. I do now. If I am attacked by one I’ll pull out my gun and blow its head off. If my lab is I will attack the pit bull. If it fights back I will immediately pull out my gun and blow its brains out.
70 pounds, that’s about as big as they can get. My red nose was only 55 pounds. I miss her terribly. She died from blood vessel cancer two years ago at 12. She was a great dog.

I have seen a few videos that say just the opposite. Most breeds will defend their territory and owners but not eat their own family.
