Friday, at a softball game in Fresno, an announced stated they wouldn’t be playing the National Anthem before Clovis High and Buchanan High played for the Central Section championship.
According to the Fresno Bee, the announcer said “There will be no anthem, let’s just play softball.”
On the weekend we pay our ultimate respect to those who have sacrificed everything for our freedom, the crowd wasn’t happy with the announcement.
The Fresno Bee reported:
Following a loud chorus of boos, the patriotic crowd stood up and began singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” a cappella.
Many removed their hats and placed their hands over their hearts. Others simply stood tall with pride.
Players stopped their pregame warmups to turn around and face the American flag that waved beyond the center-field wall.
When the song was over, the crowd burst into a round of applause.

At Mass in the NW Phoenix Valley, the hymn was “My Country ‘tis of Thee” and it was the most sung hymn. Plenty of hispanic heritage at my church as well.

Are you at SS. Simon and Jude? If so, I assume you have mostly long time resident Mexicans as ethnics. In Tucson, Orientals of all stripes and Latinos and Africans also. Big mixed salad.
Former Attorney General Ed Meese has recalled many times how Reagan did not like the amnesty provision and, in fact, “called it for what it was.” Nevertheless, on November 6, 1986, Reagan signed the bill, which also included (as he noted in remarks made during the signing) “employer sanctions [and] other measures to increase enforcement of the immigration laws. . .”
“The lesson from the 1986 experience is that such an amnesty did not solve the problem,” Meese wrote in HUMAN EVENTS earlier this year, “There was extensive document fraud and the number of people applying for amnesty far exceeded projections. And there was a failure of political will to enforce new laws against employers. After a brief slowdown, illegal immigration returned to high levels and continued unabated, forming the nucleus of today’s large population of illegal aliens.”
Meese’s view of a “failure of political will to enforce new laws” was seconded and elaborated upon by Tony Snow last week. As he told me, “[I]f you take a look, for instance, at Simpson-Mazzoli, John, what was the punishment for crossing the border illegally? There was none, zero. For employers, the punishment ranged from a $250 fine to, I believe, a maximum of $2,000. Basically, fairly insignificant measures against employer, when it came to knowingly hiring and sheltering illegals, and obviously, you did not have the sort of support at the border to try to reduce the flow. You didn’t have the deployment of the National Guard forces — I mean, Border Patrol forces — I mean, Border Patrol units, and so on.” [Specifically, Simpson-Mazzoli required $250 to $2000 for each alien hired; in a second offense the employer would be subject to a $200 to $5000 civil penalty per alien found; subsequent offenses called for $3000 to $10,000 fines and possibly a prison term for a “pattern or practice” of violations.)

We used to live in Oro Valley, near Tucson recently. I went to several times a week and during Lent I would travel all over the county/ diocese to attend daily mass and stations of the cross. Let me tell you, even in the most socialist neighborhoods during American holidays, which were many times on Monday, we all sang patriot songs. The only church I did not go to was the one for the U of A students (avoided that).
I made it a point to go to mass on US holidays because for me it was a Holy Day and I wanted to worship God and thank him for our country inspired by HIM. My heart especially swelled when singing patriotic songs that were suffused with references to God.
I am so sad that things had begun to change with the catholic congregations in Tucson.
Fine people like the Fresno crowd are the reason I DON’T want California to fall into the sea!
Yes, Tucson has changed and not for better. But still beautiful. On Border some Catholic Churches have only one or even no Masses in English.
I love them, especially the musica, but we are America.ç
I went to several churches in or around South Tucson in grand and beautiful churches, which were now Mexican neighborhoods and it was basically me and the office staff attending morning mass.
One woman railed that they had money for drinks and drugs but not to support their parish. So awful that they could be in the midst of God beckoning them in and they did not heed.
Those Churches are still there. All but one still active.

We need to know WHO was responsible for the bad decision.
And that person/people need to be removed from their positions.

Yes, just a generation or two ago anyone pulling this crap would be pulled out in front of everyone and had the crap beat out of them. Treason by another name? Liberal democrat.
I went to my granddaughters junior high graduation ceremony last week and was very happy that they not only had the crowd recite the pledge of allegiance, but the pledge to the Texas flag AND gave a prayer to which the crowd ended with a loud “AMEN!” The crowd was very into the participation :)
I wonder how a Latin Mass would go over?? I would think it would become very popular.
