Is there a "/s" here that I missed?
Doubt it. Five years of dog bite data in my county, german shepherds are number one, followed by huskies and related; pit bulls are lower than Chihuahuas at the number five spot.
retrievers of all kinds instinctively do not bite hard, they were bred to retrieve birds and bring them back intact. A professional trainer advised me it is extremely difficult to train a retriever for protection, usually the best they can do is alert, bark and look tough. When someone steps on their tail they usually react by turning to bite but do not bite down.
