Box-Office Preview: 'Solo' Headed for Lowest Opening of Disney 'Star Wars' Movies

If all goes well, a young Han Solo and his band of outcasts will take out Captain Jack Sparrow and set a new Memorial Day weekend record at the box office.

Disney and Lucasfilm's spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story is tracking to open to $130 million to $150 million over the long holiday weekend, with $130 million being on the low end of expectations. To date, the Memorial Day weekend record-holder for the top domestic launch is 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End with $139.8 million, not adjusted for inflation.

Isn’t Hand-Solo just a supporting character in his own film?

I made it through my whole life without EVER watching a Star Wars movie. Not one.
Yea me!

Maybe Disney would've had more success with a computer animated film about a friendly red plastic cup.

It appears Disney is going to milk this Cosmic Cow for all she’s worth.

Time to wrap up Star Wars. Good story writing and imagination has gone away because of groupthink and poor education in America.

All they have are stupid remakes that ruin an original hit show or movie by rearranging the deck chairs and adding in social justice hogwash.

meh Solo=Zero

No, with Disney’s current SJW virtue signaling, they are going to just throw money down a hole.
It’s time for Disneycorp’s economic demise.

Disney will never outright disappear, but financial problems could lead to a buyout, by say China.

We took our kids to see the original “Star Wars” in the 70’s, in Tallahassee, while we went across the street to the mall to finish up our Christmas shopping.

To this day, I’ve never even seen a single movie about “Star Wars”. I don’t care to, either.

And, I’m really sick of hearing about it, and of the never-ending sequels. I think it’s all about new generations of “special effects”, trying to outdo the older “special effects”. In my experience, the more a show becomes about the special effects and graphics, the worse the movie is overall.

The more the film franchise becomes about special effects and thrill rides, the less coherent it becomes.

The manner of effects is different across the films and the subsequent attempts at “improving” the effects in the original films will continue to stick out like a sore thumb after newer films with newer computer effects come out.

and having a NYC like diner in one of the films was a dumb idea.

Dumb ideas are worse than bad special effects.

Both challenge the suspension of disbelief.

Disney killed Han’s character, and never had all the original characters on the screen at the same time.

To help with these people. Who writes a new Star Wars movie and never once does that?

The trend for all SW movies since disney bought them is downward.

People don’t like crapping and pissing all over a beloved franchise accompanied by having PC shoved down their throat. Who’d a thunk it???

That chick who took over said “we don’t need the young male market.”

Guess not.

Unfortunately, the people who would understand and know to bring these and turn the movie into a Rockie Horror Picture Show live-action audience event — would not watch this movie.

Maybe it was contractually stipulated by one or more of the cast members.

Carried Fisher provided script input and such vanity could be a choice to prevent “then/now” comparisons as people get old.
