Rams new stadium costs pass $4 billion, more than double any other U.S. stadium

This new Los Angeles Rams stadium better be good.

We know it will be expensive, to a record level. Sports Business Journal reported that costs for the new stadium in Inglewood have passed $4 billion. You read that right.

Stadium costs have gone way up through the years, but no other stadium in the United States has come anywhere close to this. SBJ said the most expensive stadium previous to this was MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and that cost $1.7 billion. The Raiders’ new stadium in Las Vegas is expected to cost more than $2 billion. That’s still less than half of what the Rams stadium, which will also be used by the Los Angeles Chargers, will cost. […]

The extra costs, in part, come from ensuring the stadium can withstand an earthquake, SBJ reported. There have also been other costs like access roads and utilities that are adding to the price tag.

That $4.25 billion figure doesn’t even include the entire complex. It does include a 6,000-seat amphitheater, SBJ said, but not retail space and commercial development or a new NFL Network headquarters. When all that is included, the total project cost could exceed $5 billion, Sports Business Journal said. …

The NFL and the Rams need taxpayers to pay for that.

Hence, they must get deeply involved in politics, particularly the ascendent, leftist governing politics of our day.

Kickbacks. Lots of corrupt politicians and union leaders with their hands out.

You are still correct. It's the LA/CA governments that are footing the bill for this--then taxing the people to get the money.

10 or 15 grand per game and I’d show and take a nap or play games on phone. If I paid any attention to the game, it would be a mistake.

The Rams were the only pro team I ever liked. Then I quit caring in the mid 80s.

He’s actually not using any public finds for this. I do believe he got some concessions on the land and property taxes, but compared to other stadium rip-offs, this was not too bad. The deal is not much different than any other business getting some breaks to move to a community. I’m sure Toyota USA got a few breaks from Plano to relocate their HQ there. I’m pretty sure Nebraska furniture did too.

Rams are footing the bill. LA wisely has voted down numerous referenda for building a stadium and the Rams owner decided to just build the thing himself. Owner Stan Kroenke is a real estate developer. He knows what he is doing in this sphere. This is more than a football stadium ... a LOT more.

I'll be glad when they leave the Coliseum. Before the Rams came, fans of the USC Trojans didn't have to go through metal detectors to get in. I'm hoping that will change when the Rams leave.

Dr. Sivana is correct. This is a LOT more than a stadium. The $5B covers construction of the stadium, the parking, a 6,000-seat performance theatre, infrastructure, and retail, office and entertainment districts. The NFL will develop a 200,000 square foot space to headquarter operations for hundreds of employees at NFL Network, NFL.com, the NFL app and NFL RedZone, and the new NFL Media campus.

Seattle's stadium takes up 30 acres (the NFL's smallest). The Cowboys' AT&T Stadium covers over 73 acres. New Jersey's MetLife Stadium 75 (the NFL's former largest). This is 300 acres... four times larger than the largest NFL stadium complex.

To pay off the stadium, they should be playing SUCCER, not Foootballl.

In Succer, you get white people to pay and see black people play some sort of sport while they are on steroids. After the game, the steroid freaks get to rail about how awful the world is because of....white people.

Stan Kroenke is apparently creating a massive real estate empire just in this one location... with his own money and debt. We should not be like Dems and reflexively bark without knowing the facts first. No Tax Money is being used here. Kroneke is self-financing, had his debt ceiling raised, and will be making a massive commercial enterprise district out of thin air, for his own profit. Good on him!!!
