In as much as Harry may be the son of Dianna’s riding instructor and the bride is an American mutt, what”s “Royal” about it?

A great American song by Ben E King. (Also a great American movie by Meathead…credit where it’s due)

I mean screw the royals. We booted them out.

Yep. And not a religious song. A pop song.
I give this ‘marriage’ five years.
Tops.

I thought is was a pop song originally. Not exactly an old spiritual. They sing You’ll never walk alone at soccer games in England. Maybe that would have worked better.

1) “Stand by Me” is NOT a Negro spiritual, although it was based on one called, “Lord, Stand by Me.”
2) It was released in 1961 originally
3) Released as a rock song by John Lennon, 1975.

There. Now I feel better.

I haven’t watched one second of this wedding but from what I read it sounds like some wedding planner put together what she thought a black wedding would be like. Interspersed with a royal wedding. I doubt the bride or groom did much planning of it other than a few of their wants.

"Stand By Me" is not exactly a Negro spiritual. It was co-written by Ben E. King, who performed it and turned it into a big hit, along with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who were originally from Los Angeles. Leiber and Stoller wrote a number of hits including Hound Dog, Bazoom and Yakety Yak.

Another of their big hits was Saved. Since Leiber and Stoller are Jewish, I assume that this is about a Jew whose faith has been rekindled. They also wrote Smokey Joe's Cafe. When I ate at that cafe, I got better service than Leiber and Stoller did.
