In one of the more beautiful moments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, guests were treated to a performance of "Stand By Me" by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir.

The song was performed following Bishop Michael Bruce Curry's address at St. George's Chapel in Windsor. Watch and cry and sing along and watch and cry again:

While everyone has 100% danced to the song at every wedding reception they've ever been to since it was released in 1961, TIME magazine points out that Meghan and Harry's decision for the choir to sing the song at their wedding marks a symbolic turning point for the monarchy.

During the civil rights movement in America, "Stand By Me" rose to popularity during as a "rallying cry for solidarity amongst people of color"

The marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose mother Doria Ragland is black, is already a significant moment for the monarchy. As British writer Lola Adesioye asks to TIME:

"How did this girl—who is not only of color, but didn’t go to the same schools or universities as the royals, who wasn’t even raised in the U.K., and so has all these points of difference and otherness—get to this place? It says a lot about diversification.”

thats what i mean! the other poster said the comment made “us” look like idiots. I guess he means Freepers or conservatives. My point is who cares, the other side already doesn’t like conservatives.

Except that not all conservatives are ignorant bigots. In fact, I’d venture to say that most are not.

....”I can not understand”....

Well considering it’s her second or third marriage it can be offensive to some as being an overdone event etc...so you have to give them that.

There’s always going to be something to critique at these affairs.....how about her hair falling into her face during the vows.

“I thought is was a pop song originally. Not exactly an old spiritual.”

There was another Stand By Me song a year or so earlier by Junior Parker. (I actually liked it better.) It, in fact, was a secularly re-written version of a gospel song. Maybe that’s where the confusion comes in.

I didn’t listen long as a couple minutes was plenty enough to see where it was heading. His theatrics were way over the line for his surroundings but then he ran with the fame of the moment and Harry and megan seemed fine with it.

I was in a deli picking up so e breakfast and they had that on. Absolutely cringe-inducing. What I saw of this ceremony felt like a 70s sitcom version of a royal event.

The girl is, like, an octoroon or something! Yet reading the stories about this wedding you would have thought the Prince was marrying someone Esther Rolle-level-black!

Would it be unkind to ask if the song was Harry’s plea that she stand by him more steadfastly than she stood beside her first husband? More steadfastly than with her second long time lover (although unmarried)?

It seemed a bit ironic hearing “Stand By Me” at a wedding for someone who has never stood by any of her family before...

Jealous of what, the used up, big-mouth leftist tramp all in white on her what, 3rd husband? Or of the sitcom mash-up rendition of what someone thought a black American and royal fusion wedding would look like?

They're perfectly free to do it however they want. But the rest of us are free to comment on the lack of decorum and the laughable aspects of it, especially as it's being rammed down our throats via every possible medium.

There’s always going to be something to critique at these affairs..

LOL - yes, not a critique but for Dianas funeral my favorite recalled scene was when Elton John sang Goodbye English Rose, Sir Richard Attenborough was sitting just in front of and did not see the piano it was behind him, he about jumped out of his skin when Elton started to play - it was so funny

They made you watch it? Most people have more control in their life than that.

In as much as Harry may be the son of Dianna’s riding instructor

Yes, I remember that "riding instructor" and Prince Harry has more than a passing resemblence to him.
