Fresh Mid-Engine Corvette Spy Shots Reveal New Details

Call us Captain Ahab, because the upcoming mid-engine Corvette is our great white whale. Each passing day sees us get closer to laying eyeballs on the finished beast, and these images mark some of our best views yet of what to expect from the C8-generation Vette.

Although the car remains cloaked in camouflage, a number of new details about the latest iteration of the American sports car can now be confirmed. Notably, the fast rear glass that marks today’s Corvette won’t be carried over to the eighth-generation model in the form of an engine cover. Instead, the two-door coupe appears to take a page from the likes of the McLaren 570S, offering a flat, vented panel between a pair of flying buttresses. What appears to be a camera mounted at the rear of the roof ought to help mitigate the C8’s limited rear visibility.

Cool. It's about time we started manufacturing a mid-engine sports car.

Looks like a Corvette had illicit relations with a Fiat X 1/9

A mid-engine Corvette is not a Corvette.

“A mid-engine Corvette is not a Corvette.”

If it has the 850 up biturbo v8 I could live with that.

I mean it’s like having a front-engine Corvair.

It’s just not right.

Zora Arkus-Duntov tried for years to build a mid-engine ‘Vette. The first real attempts were the rotary-engine Vettes. Back in the ‘80s, they tried again with the Indy. Maybe this time, they’ll really do it. I’ve wanted a ‘Vette since my cousin had a red ‘76 he bought new, and the Indy really hit a chord with me. If they go mid-engine, I may have to find a way to actually put it in my garage.

A mid engine Corvette has been rumored since the late 1960’s or the 1970’s. Believe it when you see it on a dealer’s floor.

Benefit being better weight distribution for handling?

They have been determined to ruin the corvette forever and make it just another euro-style flash car. Congrats idiots.

Two words...new Coke.
