Vanity: Need Recommendations for Conservative Charities
5/16/2018 | Me

Posted on 05/16/2018 7:25:57 AM PDT by MountainWalker

I have the opportunity to donate quite a bit of money out of a trust to the charities of my choosing. I used to personally donate to Save the Children until I watched them posting all this Huffpo garbage on their Facebook page. O'Sullivan's Law is a real phenomenon, so I'm looking for some charities that will help those in need but also those that reflect our values.

I was thinking St. Jude's Children's Hospital and The Wounded Warrior Project - any others or better ones that you guys would recommend?

I like Samaritan’s Purse. They do a lot of good in this world, while sharing the gospel...

Sometimes there are very local charities where 100% of proceeds get to the charity to help and you still get a deserved write-off.

Both are excellent. I have a couple of relatives who owe their lives to the Shriners’ hospitals.

Salvation Army. They’ve always promised that no more than 10% will ever go to overhead and they’ve kept that promise. You can’t go wrong with them.

I donated four round-trip SWAA airline tickets to Operation Once In a Lifetime. Two soldiers were able to return home for Christmas; two were able to visit Arlington National Cemetery. I donated the four tickers in honor of my late husband, a retired USAF fighter pilot who flew in Vietnam. I’ve come to know the founder, Sgt. Sowers, and trust him totally.

I would like to recommend ‘Little Sisters of the Poor:

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR MISSION, VISION and VALUES

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, we serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world.

Continuing the work of Saint Jeanne Jugan, our MISSION is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself...’

* On April 24, 2018 an appeals court ruled that Little Sisters of the Poor can join the Trump administration in fighting the (un)Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate.

North American Mission Board is one that every penny goes to service. They are usually among the first on the ground in response to disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc.
Samaritan’s Purse is another good one.

Fisher House - helps family of military (or former military)...ie, when my husband’s Vietnam vet cousin was dying in Seattle hospital, it allowed his parents to come and stay for a few weeks to be close to him (they lived in Oregon).

I give every year to Fisher House.

They have a good rep, I have seen them in action at Walter Reed, they have a good rating, and I love what they do and how they do it.
