Hillary Clinton ‘in f***-laden Trump tirade during mock debate’
The Week (U.K.) ^ | 4/24/2018 | Staff

Hillary Clinton launched into a “f***-laced fusillade” during a practice session for her televised debate with Donald Trump in the run-up to the 2016 election, according to a journalist who followed her 2016 presidential bid.

In her new book, Chasing Hillary, New York Times journalist Amy Chozick, who covered Clinton’s political career for a decade, sheds light on the inner workings of a campaign which ended in shocking defeat.

In one passage, she describes a practice debate in which Clinton reportedly cried “You want authentic, here it is!”, followed by “a f***-laced fusillade about what a ‘disgusting’ human being Trump was and how he didn’t deserve to even be in the arena”.

Trump was played in the mock debates by longtime Clinton aide Philippe Reines, the New York Times reported at the time. Reines was chosen for the part due to his familiarity with Clinton’s “personal and political vulnerabilities”, enabling him to “throw any number of embarrassing comments in her face” as he imitated her outspoken Republican rival.

Chozick’s memoir of ten years on the campaign trail also offers other insights into Clinton’s struggle to deal with Trump’s unorthodox approach. His bombastic style and disdain for policy detail threw Clinton off-message, she writes: “Trump had made her as devoid of substance as he was.”

I think it’s on Amazon Prime. I have it on my Smart TV. It’s free to prime members. It came out just a couple months ago.

I’m telling you, it is non stop. You forget how he steam rolled over all of them.

Will crack you up.

I think he starts with Rick Perry. He was the first to go after Trump. Trump says, “You seen Perry? He’s got these glasses on, so people will think he’s smart. He needs an IQ test.”

Or, Lindsay Graham...he reads off the guy’s cell phone number.

He’s brutal with everyone, Carson, Rubio, Walker, Fiorina...

Jeb is the worst. I mean you really start to squirm listening to it. Bush had to have been up at night. No wonder, he dropped out. He had over $100 million in his account when he did. Amazing.

He even smashes Chris Christie...and then of course Cruz.

The second half of course is how he smashes the media and Hillary. Unrelenting, unflinching.

The man is actually more democrat than republican.

QUESTION:WOULD ALL OF US BE AS MUCH FOR TRUMP, IF HE WERE THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT?

What is so funny is the fact that Hillary wanted Trump to be her candidate.

Why do you think he got so much free advertising? Like millions in free advertising?

She got the candidate of her choice. She thought: "What conservative is going to vote for the twice-divorced, known womanizer?"

The fix was in. There was NO WAY Hillary could lose the election to "that guy."

None of them, Hillary nor the media, none of them thought he would win the election.

I chuckle to myself every time I think of how we fooled the crap out of all of them. I am chuckling right now. Hee hee.

“Had Hillary come out in July and said she’d dismantle NAFTA...tearing apart the Bill Clinton-legacy....I think she would have won. But she had absolutely no idea of the public sentiment about lost jobs and the effect of NAFTA.”

Or had not screwed Bernie, he would have won if she didn't cheat.

What people don't see is this. Michigan is booming right now to the point, people are now stealing talent, something that did not happen under he who shall not be named, job mobility. PDJT gets it. We lost hope w/ NAFTA, the best moral boost is a job, how many people into the whole Opioid thing, gave up, lost hope, and many were places where jobs were lost, like Ohio. He's bringing hope back, now if we can get these folks into some 12 step etc/ rehab program etc, PDJT will do more for their souls than their pocketbook.

I’m not disagreeing with you but I have always found Schumer’s delivery almost flatline although his rhetoric is hilariously over the top, written as it is by his red diaper baby staffers.

Schumer planned to do a McConnell...he was either going to be a majority or a minority power behind the throne type but events and seniority cast him into the role of nominal leader even though he couldn’t lead a fish to swim.

And so he has been more visible than even he would like. Every time he reads his little prepared statements it’s obvious that he has never seen the text before in his life - he’s too busy schmoozing and eating at posh restaurants. His glasses slip down his nose and he attempts to sound earnest and principled but he is a fraud as bad as the Cardiff Giant.

You are right, I remember. SHe feared Rubio the most, but they wanted Trump, so the media did what they could to give him air time...

And of course, Trump is on every station, every day, with anyone who would have him.

When I’m station flipping, I love to go to Youtube or pick out one of these docs on Trump to relive things....

I can watch the election night over and over again... and Rachel Maddow and the rest of them predicting that Trump, even on his best day, will get beat.

I'd love to have seen the Rembrandt of insult do a tattoo on the hag!

I think Netflix or Amazon has all of the Dean Martin roasts.

I watched the one on Bob Hope...Really funny. Ronald Reagan is on there, and he’s funny. So is Flip Wilson and Nipsy Russell. Those were really two funny funny guys.

I think just about all of them were using cue cards, then up comes Don Rickles, who dies one year ago at 90, and he’s totally off the cuff on Bob Hope and everyone else on the stage.

This monster came damn close to winning

Every election year is "The Most Important One of Our Lives!" "Vote or Die!" "Etc!". Pick your flavor of hyperbole.

However, I think 2016 may have been just that. Clinton getting elected might have been something that the country couldn't recover from. We'll likely not know for another generation or so, if ever. But I think that it was a very near thing.

Good post, excellent analysis. IMO, Hillary was the only Dem that Trump could have beaten, and Trump was the only Rep that Hillary could have lost to.

she and her party directly worked to get Trump the nomination because they foolishly believed he’d be easier to beat......

Sounds pretty familiar, I remember reading that on FR about BO back in 2008. Love it when Dems have access to the same playbook and don't bother to pay attention.

Easily forgotten? I hope not.

She must be remembered in all of her inglorious infamy, forever, so we, the people, aren’t fooled or tempted into making such a mistake as her again!

Besides, fwiw, we’re still not finished with her.

She still has her soon to be sheduled public “coming out party”, where all of US and the world will finally get to know the real Hillary unplugged.

And there she will get the bill for those 30 pieces of American silver she’s received and she will have to pay history for.

Given the Clinton Crime Family’s way of dealing with its inconvenient truths, I have to wonder if she’ll Arkancide herself before that bill comes.

Hillary Clinton was ALWAYS devoid of substance, it had nothing to do with Trump.
