I stand alone here on FR that the electric car revolution is coming, not because of "green" but because it makes sense, quiet, smooth, fast, and soon the batteries will be stellar to make it happen. ( 2d gen solid state )

Note:

* "The Sun Flyer" 2 seat trainer that will be electric powered was test flown this past week w/ a battery that will be FAA approved w/ 260w/kg. That is more energy density than a Tesla, that is a big deal, no one sees it and denotes where we are headed.

* I am here in MI and yes you get the ethereal sense from reading the in the auto beltway media ( of which is now all on line as well ) that The Skateboard Concept is the way to go, aka batteries under the floorboard for a low center of gravity w/ an SUV type vehicle, and not just them all of them, aka the Tesla and the Chevy Bolt are already using this concept.

* If you look at the product cycles vehicles like this are being mentioned aka Volvo will have an all Electric sporty SUV in a couple of years, so you can see the talk of a Ford competitive entry is not without merit, or the wonks that look at what consumers will want in 2,3, or 5 yrs must be seeing this as a "want".

* In that regards it makes sense for a Mustang derived SUV, it means fun something that dad, mom and the kids will want to be in, which is part of the Tesla allure, FWIW, kids like the Tesla. It also takes an existing brand and makes it a line which may or may not where well over time.

My guess is w/ all the auto manufacturers wanting to save cost, using Mustang running gear (suspension) w/ a low center of gravity battery package ='s an SUV that may handle like a Go-Kart. What's not to like in that!

BTW, Jaguar SUV Skateboard and a "rendering" of what a Mustang SUV might look like...

I have nothing against EVs. I have watched videos and read articles about the electric powered planes. An electric vehicle is very practical for the majority of the driving most people do and the electric plane seems like a nice idea for short hops. I like the simplicity of both and the electric planes I have seen look like gliders with motors. I read that they use most of there power on take off and very little while flying through the air.

There is no doubt as to the speed of electric cars. I watched a street drag show where this guy had modified a Tesla,I think, and he was blowing away everyone quite easlily.

I still can’t visualize driving an electric car in Chicago in the winter. Snow traffic tie ups. Bingo your out of power and heat.

The problem is the scenario is presented as either/or. This is the thought that everyone immediately goes to and why is that?

There is a role for electric vehicles. What is not liked is the government mandate regarding the situation.

Heck, there is even a role for ethanol. But the government makes it one size fits all, that is the problem with centralized government.

” because it makes sense, quiet, smooth, fast, and soon the batteries will be stellar to make it happen”

No. The science doesn’t support that, and neither does traffic. Only the top of the line electrics have amazing speed, the rest are just average acceleration.

You’re getting caught up in the hype.
