If you can believe the press, he’s always been a bad boy. I’ve seen him in footage of a party, running, naked as a jay bird. Nowadays, it’s not usually considered rebellious to have a mixed marriage, but I imagine the Queen, being very traditional and conservative, is trying to make the best of a likely bad situation. She’s had enough rebellion in her own kids; she knows by now, that the world has gone nuts.
Remember, it can be easy to be duped, especially when someone has a big syrupy smile and knows how to be oh so nice.
