The original (B-1A) design had three of those eight-station rotary launchers for the SRAM aka Short Range Attack Missile. Aircraft was to fly a low-altitude, high-speed penetration (>500 ft AGL and <1000 KTS) and dispense all 24 missiles using these racks.

The B-1B IIRC got the third (aft) launcher removed in favor of auxiliary fuel and the other two launcher/bomb bays were (I’d heard) reconfigured for “dumb” bombs.

Apparently, at least some of the birds still have the launcher capability.....
