HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) - Hutchinson police say two women made fake calls to 911 leading police to believe a man was dangerous, armed with a gun and hiding in a garage.
Before police could figure out the truth, they ended up pointing weapons at an innocent man and his baby.
Chassity Nicholson, 22, of Hutchinson and Tatumn Watkins, 20, of Hutchinson are now charged with making a false alarm and giving false information regarding violence or threat to a person's safety.
Michael Kirk, the victim of the call, says he was just watching TV early Thursday when all of a sudden police are in his backyard screaming for him to come out.
He walked outside with his 3-month-old baby and was surrounded by police with their guns drawn.
Police were there responding to what is now known as a prank call about a welfare check where one of the women on the call said Kirk was armed with a handgun and was threatening his family, which he was not.(snip)
The call turned out to be a hoax and Kirk was let go. His 3-month-old baby was returned. But Kirk says he is now left with painful reminders.
"I still have marks on my arms from the handcuffs," explained Kirk.
And Kirk says he feels lucky to be alive.
"They handled it to a decent point but like I said when I was pulled out of the garage, there so many of them screaming at me telling me to do different things that one little move I could have made they could have shot me."

One does not have to be a “cop hater” to expect/demand more professional behavior from responding officers than was apparently exhibited in this case.
I am in favor of charging (and convicting) those who make false police reports such as this one with felon-level crimes.

I suppose you’re right. Ignorant would also work.
Tatum might clean up okay if she gets her head right.
Any idea what caused them to want to kill this guy?
I've never been "SWATed", but all the TV scenes show exactly this: A bunch of heavily armed men breaking into your place, ususlly in the middle of the night, and all screaming something, none of which is intelligible.
And we want to hold people accountable for their actions while on the receiving end of this?
(any mention of a warrant?)
Did the police find meth on them?
This is a strange story. The broadcast clip at the link indicates that one of the women is the boy’s ‘girlfriend’, but no indication as to whether she’s the mother of the child...nothing at all about a mother.
Chassity. Not only a dumb name but a misspelled dumb name.
How to heck was she out of jail already?
Why the almost hysterical screams? This of "get down, get down" etc. Could this panic some innocent persons and then they have got shot? Second guessing is easy, but perhaps a loud authoritative command would be better. Spoken in an exceptionally loud voice, but with a deliberate calmness about the delivery.
Just a few thoughts on this matter.
‘...if you (the innocent homeowner) called 911...”
That sounds like a good suggestion...as long as the cops didn’t bust in your door and plug you because you had an “object” in your hand.
Michael has been cleared but the baby is still being investigated.
Meth is a helluva drug.
.
Yes, if used continuously for months it can easily kill.
.
Are you saying you think people who expect and/or demand professional conduct from law enforcement officers are ignorant?
I’m saying the people who immediately turn on the cops without anything near complete information are acting out of ignorance, but for the most part, here on FR, they are cop haters.
A good case for sterilization
“...but perhaps a loud authoritative command would be better.”
. . . . . . .
I can see it now...
Officer Dick: “I want to be the loud, authoritative voice today.”
Officer Les: “No, no...you were the loud authoritative voice last time. I want to do it this time.”
Officer Poon: “Why do guys always get to do it? Why can’t a woman be the loud, authoritative voice?”
Sgt. Tain: “Officer Poon will be the loud, authoritative voice this time. Last time I let you guys do it, everybody wound up emptying their mags in the innocent victim. I’m still doing paperwork for that little fiasco.
Sgt Tain: “Officer Poon, are you ready? Be sure to use your big boy voice.”
Officer Poon: “Yes, ma’am!”
