Regarding your post of Jr's crash. Two issues, one, I would want to see the actual source of that report before I would even entertain its validity.
The airplane is a Saratoga, not going to fly to 14,000 feet. 7 miles from destination, not going to be at 14,000 feet. From 14,000 in a full power dive, might, I doubt it will reach 6,000 feet per minute dive. So think of it this way . . . An average of 6,000 feet per minute would require a fall of 8,000, 9,000 feet per minute towards the end. Not going to happen.
So many things wrong in that report that the anon posted or shall I say are suspect. Like he is VFR, so his altitude would have been ***+ 500, etc etc.
He was under-qualified for the conditions he tried to fly in. Pretty simple. In all these years see it time and time again.
Yep, add in the transition from ground lights to the blackness over the water; Vertigo city. Getting the tail blown off would be the frosting on the cake. Nobody had to kill him, just give him more opportunities to fly in these conditions with his experience.
