Pro Cheerleaders Say Groping and Sexual Harassment Are Part of the Job
NY Times ^ | Aprill 9, 2018 | Juliet Macur and John Branch

Cheerleaders for professional sports teams are often dancers with backgrounds in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop and tap. After beating out dozens of other dancers for the job, they have a chance to show off the athletic and dancing skills they have honed for years. But they quickly learn that performing during sporting events is only a small part of their job description. They are also required to fulfill what often becomes the unsavory side of the job: interacting with fans at games and other promotional events, where groping and sexual harassment are common.

Pro cheerleaders tend to marry well, and not just to players. Plenty of guys (non-players) with above average incomes are around any pro sports team. I believe there are a large number of pro cheerleaders who marry athletes that aren’t in the sport for which they cheerlead. A number of pro cheerleaders went on to Hollywood careers too.

Pro cheerleaders are not well paid - they gotta make a living somehow.

“How often do pro football cheerleaders actually get to marry a pro-football player? I assume this the dream”

hardly. way too many pro players are washed up, poorly educated, broke, and/or without prospects when they retire.

the dream is to hob-nob with wealthy heirs, wealthy corporate types, and wealthy business/entrepreneur types at private parties and marry one of them ...

Eliminate the cheerleaders. There is no need for this any more

What kind of woman becomes a cheerleader?

A woman who wants to get the attention of a wealthy football player, or the wealthy men who occupy the private suites in the stadium.

Such women get offended when "beta males" think they have the right to look upon them.

Except, there is no fraternization with the players. They spend more time doing events for “Make a Wish” than they do interacting with anyone near a football field.

Charity events are an opportunity to meet wealthy donors.

I operated a sports photography business. As such, I would shoot little league football for the local town team. Yes...it was overkill.

But my point is that even at the little league point (4th grade through 8th grade) these teams would have their cheerleaders.

One day the Cheerleader coach asked me to shoot some pictures of the girls doing their routine. Not a big deal. So I worked during half time. I was not really impressed.

But...and this is the kicker. You would think that I would have been called out by a parent for taking pictures of 12 year old girls shaking it on the field. I understand that. I was prepared for that. And I never used those pictures on line.

What I DID get was a parent flipping out that I was taking pictures of his daughter. I was getting ready to go into the “show me who she is and I will delete EVERY image” speech. That wasn’t the issue. He was concerned that his daughter would be the next Miss America, (the kid was already doing beauty pageants) and he did not want me to have control of any images.

My jaw hit the ground. Then I started laughing.

I said to the guy, “You have your daughter out there swinging her ass around like a stripper and you are concerned that I am going to take advantage of her?”

That was the last time I shot cheerleaders at any level lower than college.

Cheerleaders drive me nuts.
