I do have a question ... Qx has 2 big 44" or so LG smart TV's used as Desktop monitors. The material that came with them seemed to indicate an add on camera would have to be bought, if desired.

We are not convinced that's accurate, however.

How likely is it that cameras are hidden behind the screen portion of such screens? Can't find evidence of one on the border bezel. He has the Samsung one covered with black duct tape.

I have no idea. but easily found this.

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/09/if-you-have-a-smart-tv-take-a-closer-look-at-your-privacy-settings.html

LG TVs
LG TVs also include tracking software, but by a different name. On webOS TVs, go to Setting > General > About This TV > User Agreements > and opt out of Viewing Information, Personal Advertising, and/or Voice Information. Opting out of Voice Information will disable voice control.

On older TVs, click on Settings > Options > LivePlus and toggle to “off.” Some LG TV models may call this Collection of watching info.

In 2013, LG’s smart TVs were found to have collected and sent data whether or not the Collection of watching info was set to “on” or “off” – but since then, LG pushed a software update that does not collect data when the user has opted out by toggling the setting to “off.”

After a bit of research (click here) my conclusion is not very likely in a common commercial teevee set. Not impossible, but unconventional and certainly would add cost. Not that the conventional cameras are expensive, cost less than three bucks for the light-sensor chip.

Good question..As soon as I bought my latest desk top computer. I put something over the camera eye area..Maybe its a false area and the eye is actually elsewhere. Has us wondering and questioning ..I can see how some people will think we are just paranoid.

Samsung is the one IIRC, can spy on you - voice no camera needed. I didn’t really read up on this much.

Here’s article on how to make sure to stop spying:
