On why cats drink from taps, she added: This can happen because most cat owners put out their pets food and water together, when cats actually prefer their water to be in a different place. I wonder how true this is. Most people do put the pets' food and water together.

Oh it’s true alright. Out of four cats, only one drinks from the cup by the food. The other three prefer cups in the bathroom, or straight from the tub faucet.
They don’t want water that is contaminated by a carcass. The one who wants the tap on apparently knows that running water contains fewer parasites. That dude is too smart for his own good. ;)

My cat’s food bowl is at the top of his cat tree, and his water bowl is on the floor beside said tree.
He also goes to drink from the dog’s bowl, and eats from the dog dish, too.
IOW, he doesn’t care where the food or water is, just so long as it’s there!
