I’ve begun to come to the conclusion that wherever I am, there will not be major seismic activity. While I was carried/born during one in WA, and ended up a geologist, I’ve not felt a decent one since, to the point that AFTER I’d left VA, they’ve had one there (a few years back).

It may be that my superpowers are charged by draining and relieving the local seismic stresses. If that’s the case, I’m available for rent :-)

I was giving a seminar in LA, and an earthqauke occurred. I was oblivious, and carried on. My students noticed. Maybe an affinity for sea legs served me well. Obviously was not a big one, but I was the only person in the room who did not notice the event.

“I’ve begun to come to the conclusion that wherever I am, there will not be major seismic activity.”

Heisenberg principle applies to seismology? Novel concept. Same reason my oatmeal does not boil over when I am watching it.

On a side note, I would be concerned about taking out an underwater base in my backyard. The yield required for a 5.3 earthquake would be disturbing.
