Surely climate change makes this infinitely (if not more) worse.

I guess the only thing for them to do is enter a state of blind panic and start the looting and pillaging... ...right now!

NYC is anchored by very solid rock.
Doubt a 5.0 would cause widespread damage.

I guess the “experts” dont know Manhattan sits on 600 feet of solid granite. And besides what city could take a 5 level quake?

So would most cities that are built on inactive fault lines. And if large meteor hit most cities, they would be wiped out. As a society we don’t have the money to make every city earthquake or disaster-proof.

Well, I’m no expert, but I’m going out on a limb and declaring: NYC would burn if a hydrogen bomb were dropped on it.
And it would get wet if a tidal wave hit.

New York City is in greater danger from a tsunami generated by an undersea earthquake originating along the west side of the Azores than from a local earthquake.
Real dangers are of sufficient concern without imagining potential dangers.

And New Orleans could sink further into all that water that surrounds it. Trying to flush it down the toilet bowl.
Or Los Angeles and San Francisco could fall off into the Pacific Ocean if the earthquakes keep happening.
Oh, and the sky is falling because chicken little said so.

I have always wondered what would happen with a large quake in the NYC area. It would be devastating to all of those older buildings. Can you imagine even a few coming down?
I doubt NYC and retrofit the whole city, so it is a ticking time bomb. A 5.2 every hundred years, a 6 or 7 every 670 years or so. While they might weather a 5.2, a 6 or 7 magnitude quake would be incredibly devastating. This would be on par with the big deadly quakes in Bejing and Mexico City.
