2) Neti — Hindu nasal cleaning — enters the modern age with a synthetic substitute for old-fashioned cotton string or linen cloth strips.

Not really. Neti is already in the modern age, but only the nasal lavage. Nobody is passing cloth through and even then a rubber wouldn’t clean anything.
