I'm feeling like hearing some interesting music that I've never heard before, so I thought I'd start a thread on FReeper's favorite underrated bands. Post several good examples of their music and why you feel they're underrated. Should be fun.

I like it. Need to ponder that sound, would love to get a really high definition copy on a good system

Here you go:

Automatic Man (remastered)

Think I'll order a copy myself tomorrow. Glad I could turn you on to it.

Oh, wow, almost perfect, except how about Artistry in Rhythm for Stan?

Always loved side one of XTC’s Skylarking. Dukes of Stratosphear was an impressive foray into 60s psych-pop.

Cool...ever get a chance to see them live?...as good as their albums. They
come thru my neck of the woods every couple of years and play a small
venue. I never miss that show.

Ju Ju Magic is what got me hooked on Steam Powered Giraffe, although Automatic Electronic Harmonics really shows off The Spine's vocal range. Anything from "The 2 cent Show" is great.

Your Time is Gonna Come by Dread Zeppelin, I think, is better than the original. The whole album Un-Led-Ed is great.

Becoming Insane is a great Infected Mushroom song. So is Heavyweight. I recommend just about everything they do.

“Bad Finger”

Such potential. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for that band.

For sheer raging tempo and sonic melody it would have to be Muskrat Love by Captain and Tenille.

I’ve seen them three times. Not quite the same without Lowell George. Last time I saw them the lead singer was the guy from Pure Prairie League, can’t remember his name.

There was a fair amount of thinly veiled "gay" music in the 80's and 90's, and some not so thinly veiled. If they're talented musicians and I like their sound I try not to let that bother me, there's no such thing as a sinless human being let alone a sinless musician. But, if it's overt and in your face I'll pass.

I was a fairly naive and straight-laced kid who loved a lot of music that my friends didn’t. No idea where that came from. Them, if it wasn’t getting airplay and “popular” it wasn’t worth listening to. Me, I didn’t really care about anyone else’s opinion unless those opinions were actually based on something, like maybe musical background or knowledge.

Thanks, I’ve saved it. I do my best musical pondering in the middle of the night during those times when I can’t sleep and there are no distractions. That’s when my head seems clearest and my “ear” is best.

For you Yaelle:

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can’t let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses couldn’t drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you’ve decided to show me the same
No sweeping exit or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses couldn’t drag me away

I know I’ve dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don’t have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried
Let’s do some living after we die

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses we’ll ride them some day
Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses we’ll ride them some day

Songwriters: Keith Richards / Mick Jagger
