I would imagine there were a lot of behind the scenes ‘discussions’ with certain high rankings or valuable abilities. Deals were probably cut. Many Germans feared capture or imprisonment from the Soviets. They knew the score there. Yea, there were a lot of people looking to cut that deal.
Technologically the U.S looted more from Germany than the U.S.S.R. Way more. Rocketry, Jet engines, Nuclear, encryption, radar, radio, medical.
Most of the Western countries (broad term I know) including the U.S. have run out of men.

I get caught wishing way too much that Germany smashed the Soviets to oblivion. I, not for one second, condone atrocities by the two evil regimes but seeing the German Army defeat the Soviet Army would have made history much different. I am aware Hitler declared war on the USA but I never liked the USA in any fashion allies with the Soviets. FDR and treasonous American bastards gave them EVERYTHING including much of what was to become well into the Cold War. That being said, I would be an idiot to think a post war Nazi Empire, bracketed by the Japan Empire would be any lessor than the Soviet Empire.
Unless we stayed out of the war we would still have to send our men and still likely to have to drop the bomb on one of the three.

Pretty much, but my two boys are fourth gen (that I know of) military men.
With the brutality, enormous casualties and mass murder of civilians in the East, every German wanted to end up in the hands of Americans or Brits.
But after the last decade or so I have come to think differently of the Soviet Union. It may have been the salvation of Christianity in Europe.
The Soviet oppression of Christianity may have saved it from the evil influence of the Humanist.
Now the former Soviet puppet states are the brave bastions of Christianity in Europe. They stand against the Muslim invaders. New church construction is the number one employer in Russia.
If these states had remained with the free West they may be right there with France being conquered by the Muslim hordes welcoming them with open arms.
The Soviet Union was an evil empire, but God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.
