That’s crap. The 3 have never been deactivated, and they are at steady state, nothing unusual. Besides, the USMC does not fight in terms of divisions anymore. You have three different flavors of MAGTF: MEU, MEB, and MEF.

I thought maybe the 3 referred to the Fighting Third, but the location doesn’t seem right, so probably not.

The 3rd Marine Division is an infantry division of the United States Marine Corps based at Camp Courtney, Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler and Okinawa, Japan.

It is one of three active duty divisions in the Marine Corps and together with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1stMAW) and the 3rd Marine Logistics Group (3rd MLG) forms the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF).

The division was first formed during World War II and saw four years of continuous combat in the Vietnam War.

OK - here’s the active duty divisions, and locations. So most likely the 3 located in the USA lower 48? Would that many men be needed? Waiting for comment from FReeper Marines.

There are (3) USMC Law Enforcement Battalions in the US. The 1st, 2nd, and 4th. The 4th is a Reserve unit.

I believe the 3 Marines referred to are the ones surrounding Trump

Marine Generals Are Taking Over Trump’s Administration

No fewer than three current and former four-star Marines will serve in top posts in Trump’s national security team.
The former commander of U.S. Southern Command, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, has been selected to serve as the secretary of Homeland Security in the incoming Trump administration, according to CBS News. Now, no fewer than three current or former Marine four-star generals promise to be key members of Trump’s initial foreign policy team

23, 2003, Maj. Gen. James Mattis pinned a star onto each collar of his assistant division commander, Col. John F. Kelly. He was now a brigadier general, and the first to be promoted on the battlefield since the Korean War.

Not far from there, another colonel in the unit named Joe Dunford was leading his regimental combat team.
