THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Shoppers at a Southern California mall ran into stores and out the exits Saturday after authorities said a gunman shot and killed one person and then turned the gun on himself.

The shooter was wounded and taken to a hospital, according to Ventura County fire Capt. Steve Swindle. He said there was no threat to the public. Shoppers had been locked down at The Oaks mall in the city of Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Los Angeles.

My old shopping mall when I lived in Ventura County. This is sad, and it gives the anti-gun folks more ammunition, so to speak.

What a total lack of information, but one must assume it was a “domestic” situation. Only, like, at the mall.

I have a friend, whose physically abusive, womanizing ex-husband, came to her place of employment, with the “if I can’t have you, nobody can” idea, stuck a gun in her face and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed. Then the maniac turned it on himself, and low and behold, THAT time, it WORKED! I don’t think he even had time to form the thought, “Father forgive me”, before he died. My friend, who is a devout Christian, credits God, of course, with saving her.

That’s where I shopped, too, when I worked in T.O., and lived in Simi Valley. It was a nice mall, if you like malls (which I don’t much).

The Bible tells us that, in the end, we will know all the what-ifs and what-abouts. Did God cause the misfire, or was it an accident of physics, or are they both the same in a way we can’t comprehend?

I copy-edited my friend’s Master’s thesis in philosophy, but all I did was fix the commas and stuff. I didn’t actually understand it, any more than I understood my husband’s thesis for electrical engineering or my father’s nuclear weapons safety manuals.

“What is ‘word word word word’? Is it a thing, the subject of the sentence? Or is it an action, the verb? Is it a description?”

Oh, yes, my FRiend, some of us know now. Praise God for his protection! My Lord and Saviour will be returning soon. Then, EVERY knee will bend and EVERY tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

There will be NO exceptions.

40 miles west of LA should put them just at the edge of the continental shelf.

California is quite slanted here in Southern California, so the statement is mostly accurate, especially since the LA Basin is so large in extent.

Reno is west of Los Angeles for this very reason.

Granted geography wasn't my favorite subject, but I'm pretty darn sure Reno is Northeast of Los Angeles.

grew up there from 62 to 76, with a brief interlude in RVN.

Hitch hiking to the beach on weekdays in the back of pick up trucks through topanga and malibu canyons while we cut school,(Birmingham high) to go to the Sorrento beach grill just at the tip of the slanted drive from santa monica to the PCH, burgers with fries for 50cents.

Just saying, straight west of la is the pacific. TO is slightly to the north west.

I suppose if one took the north border of the City, one could fudge.

matters not.

I had a friend who lived in TO when it was mostly oaks and grass, and pheasants, we hunted them. This was in the mid 6o's.

Nowadays, I tend to stay away from the pit.

Do pass though occasionally, on the way to palm springs or san diego for a visit with friends and relatives.
