My head hurts, too. FIVE kids is, as you say, all the investment that counts. She is described as quite reserved.
Opposites are said to attract, but who knew what was coming 5 kids later and once the father-in-law becomes POTUS. She feared for her kids and reportedly her hubby never dropped his stride from work and hunting. The complaint was that he.was.not.there. That was tolerable as a young couple, but what came along required more presence.
What worked in the beginning didn’t work after five growing children and their increasing needs. Top that normal difficulty off with POTUS and ensuing threats, powder and security guards to live with. Very scary. Impossible for some sensitive people, feeling too alone for too long, and no way out.
