Fred, I find this research incredibly interesting. I don’t think it is a hoax, but there is a lot of sensationalism of people trying to make big money on it. That makes it look like a journalistic hoax for profit.
I will await follow on research into the DNA characteristics and whether they are traceable through human ancestry genetic data bases.

I think maybe millions; but I doubt this population had anything to do with the mummy which seems to me to be an Inca sacrifice both somewhat mutilated and covered in gypsum.
Remember, when asked by the Spanish, who built the cities with the pyramids, the local population said ‘the ancients’.
The elongated, trepanned skulls are probably those of the ancient builders; the practice of skull binding and deliberate skull deformation might have been the result of a lower caste attempting to look like the elite whom they remembered.
