A progressive and often fatal lung disease killed dentists at a much faster rate than that of the general population at a Virginia hospital over the past two decades, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC reported that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis affected eight male dentists and a dental technician out of 900 patients studied, Newsweek reported. Although the dentists only represented 1 percent of the number with the disease, only 0.038 percent of people in the U.S. are dentists.
Seven of the patients studied had already died of the disease, which causes scarring in the lungs and prevents oxygen from getting into the heart and brain through the blood, Newsweek reported. It is called "idiopathic" if no cause for the disease is known. Many patients who have IPF die within three to five years of diagnosis.

My wife has this. On oxygen now. She never worked around any of these chemicals. Her father died of the same, and he also never worked around such chemicals. Asbestos in air conditioning, and he smoked a lot in his youth.
I had my first amalgam fillings at 16 years of age. I am now 71 and feeling fine. Still got my own teeth.
Back in the early 1980’s I was complaining to my doctor about back pain. Accused me in front of my father of wanting drugs. Woke up one night and couldn’t use the restroom. My urethra was restricted. Had surgery and great ever since. My urologist said my GP was liable, but I never pursued.
My point to people is YOU’RE the doctor. If they dismiss what you’re feeling or can’t help find a solution, find a new one.
Idiopathic, in this case, might mean that there is no *single* known cause of the disease. But this might mean that there are *several* causes, that work in concert.

Study a larger group and watch how the numbers magically adjust.
Well, perhaps the dentist here in North Louisiana are using this possible exposure as a reason to work only four days per week. Almost impossible to find a dentist that works on Fridays. They can’t claim that their education costs and overhead expenses were/are to high. They can meet their needs on four days pay and still pay their help a living wage.
How can they pull this three day weekend bit off so successfully? Simple, the availability of dental insurance. Provides them with built-in price fixing and they don’t have to hold secret meetings to succeed. Also raises the price of dental care for us because there is no hint of competition.
Many nutritionists claim that mercury fillings are unhealthy, some claim that root canals are extremely poisonous. Everyone agrees about the mercury if it becomes airborne, as when the dentist grinds amalgam.
You really have to be an advocate for your own health and do research and get second opinions if needed because they are not infallible.
Nobody else is going to do it for you.
