I am so sick of "Emergency Phone-calls"
vanity | March 6, 2018 | ML/NJ

Posted on 03/06/2018 3:47:21 PM PST by ml/nj

My phones are ringing off the hooks with robocalls from smug politicians telling me that it's going to snow tomorrow. (I listened to the first ten seconds of the first call.) So far my town and my county, judging by the caller-ids, have called. (Their system isn't sophisticated enough to recognize that they are calling duplicate addresses so I get two of each of these annoying calls.)

How stupid do these people think we are? What do they think we all did before they had their "emergency phone system"?

Liberal elites treat everyone as retards.
Not everyone is, it’s just that their voters really are.

Not to mention flying the flag at half-staff. They do it more days than not. For any reason.

Buncha idiots!

Get off my lawn!

I don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognize the caller. Period
If it’s important they’ll leave a message.

... every single duplicate call is wasted time, money, and resources.

Only fractions of a cent, or they wouldn't do it. That's why you get all those calls from "Rachel with Cardholder Services" or "Jessica, with information about your health insurance needs." The sunk costs are so small that they only need one hit in a million to keep it up.

More importantly, have you rushed out to the Food Lion and stocked up on milk, bread, eggs, and frozen pizza?

I bought one of these a couple of years ago as I approached 65 and was getting 15 calls a day about Medicare supplemental insurance. It works.

“What do they think we all did before they had their “emergency phone system”?”

What happened before is that the town was getting sued by people for not warning them of the snow and making them fall down their porch steps.

This system cost money, and someone (usually the town’s insurance company) required them to buy it or they wouldn’t get insurance. Which the state requires with special kickbacks to politicians and insurance salesmen.

It all comes back to government.

I know your last comment was in jest but it’s not unreasonable or grumpy to question or challenge the rapidly spreading virus of officialdom screaming LOOK AT ME and officialdom patting officialdom on the back.

Case in point: the Vegas and Florida shooting police press conferences (among others). Chief or sheriff opens the presser with longwinded mentions and praise of every cop, every dispatcher, etc. ‘First responders’ have become secular saints in the media world of hype. I’m sorry but I don’t join in the adulation. Every cop, every fireman and every EMT knows exactly what the job entails. If they were truthful they would admit they took the job in large part BECAUSE of what the job entails.

Officials bigging themelves up and pushing the panic button are cynical attempts to keep the public onside when the inevitable requests for funding and tax levies arise. ‘You can’t live without us!’ is the impression they want to convey.

BTW, the equivalent to Nomorobo for cell phones is Mr. Number. Helps ID scam calls, allows you to set up a block list, and generally makes life infinitely easier.

Here is the link to Mr. Number in the Google Play Store (for Android smart phones). As I understand it, the software is available for IOS devices also, but don't know the link to the software in the "app store."

(Speaking of Nomorobo...just got a one ring junk call...dang I love Nomorobo)

My husband downloaded some app onto my phone so I could block calls and texts from our 17-year-old daughter, but all it did was gunk everything with ads. Calls and texts from Drama Queen kept right on coming.

We were getting at least six AT&T calls per day trying to sell us cable tv we didn’t want. They promised but never stopped disturbing us. They woudnt let us block their calls either. We finally had to buy an added non-ATT call
Blocking gizmo that stops designated calls before they can get to your phone —- best money we ever spent. Now we can sleep. ATT also tried to gouge us over $50 a month above the contract rate (for non- tv phone service). Again, repeated promises to correct the Billings but they never did it. So every damned month we had to hassle with getting the bill corrected. A truly ripoff company imho

ml/nj We live in N.J. where they treat us like children who aren’t smart enough to come in from the rain. Fortunately we here in backward Warren County don’t seem to get those calls.

I don't get any of those type of calls other than the local power company high wind warnings. Haven't gotten one about tomorrow yet.

We have comcast phone service. You can go on-line and block all robocalls. I also have caller ID. My phone almost never rings. I love the peace.
