This is called behavior modification. I walked to school or rode my bike in light rain a hundred times in third grade. That kid will be glad to behave on the bus next week.

Bs. It’s not abuse. You’re the typical Dr. Spock type that raises out of control brats that shoot up high schools.

What this is is abuse. He should be in jail, counseling or something

You're joking right ... if not ... you're on the wrong web site. I ran to school 3 miles EACH way RAIN or shine at that age ... on my own. In high school that 3 miles run in the morning was to get to swim practice which was 1-2 miles in the morning and 3 miles in the evening followed with an UP HILL 3 mile run home. So please spare me about this poor little snowflake

My Dad helped me clean my room. He stood there & told me to:

“Make your bed”
“Empty your wastebasket”
“Pick up your clothes & put them away”

“And when you’re done, sweep out the garage, then mow the lawn, rake the leaves, empty the other wastebaskets & take the trash cans to the curb.”

“If you’ve been using my Shopsmith, sweep the basement floor, too.

I was so spoiled.

;^)

Our almost 11 year old grandson has ADHD, ODD, etc. Just name a D and he has it. I bought him a pair of nice running shoes and told him....instead of getting mad and running your mouth and then get in trouble for it, put on your shoes and run it off. He has to be reminded about it but boy has it helped. lol

>>I don’t know about that, but growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, I only knew of 2 boys that would qualify for today’s ADHD diagnoses.<<

I was called “hyperactive.” It ended up being the single greatest contributor to my success.

Reno89519, like another poster opined, I think you are a little oversensitive to this. I can understand how it might be difficult for certain people to step back and look at it dispassionately, I think you should try.

I think this is great parenting. He is demonstrating that actions have consequences. If there were more people who did this, we might not have as many ill-behaved snowflakes as we apparently do.

I agree - on both counts.

Dad will rue the day he made this public.

You know, I have seen recent articles about male hierarchy jujitsu and how the interruption of that might lead to these wacked out kids.

I too was one of those kids they would have medicated at the drop of a hat. My parents saved all my report cards, and a common theme right up until High School in those report cards was "Has difficulty with self-control" "Is disruptive in class" "Speaks out of turn" etc.

I wasn't bullying kids, even though I was bigger than some, I was just geeky and uncoordinated and wore the "bully magnet" glasses (in the military, we called them "BCD Glasses" or "Birth Control Device Glasses", so I got bullied quite a bit.

This reminded me of the movie "American Sniper" where the father says to his son (Chris Kyle) as he lays his leather belt on the table:

"...Now we’re not raising any sheep in this family and I will whoop your ass if you turn into a wolf..."

This guy understands his parenting responsibilities. The kid will turn out okay, and as an adult, will thank his father.

In most cultures and throughout history 10 year olds worked full time at hard labor to help feed their families.

Telling a kid he has to run to school is not abuse it is discipline. Kids today are not disciplined. It not only teaches the kid right from wrong, it builds him up physically and morally.

When I was 11 my coach used to punish us for minor infractions, like being 1 minute late to gym class or practice by making us run laps. I suppose he should have been arrested.

And you, as usual, are dead wrong on this issue.

I walked almost a mile to and then from high school. A couple of times, I took off walking in inclement weather, and my dad picked me up halfway there as he took my brothers to school. (wimps! - lol!)

I am genuinely asking, what about this was abusive? I have scars, too, physical, emotional, and otherwise. Stupid things from time to time remind me of the dark days.

I do not consider what this guy did as abusive. I’m wondering what you think was.

He doesn’t understand his parenting responsibilities well enough not to film his kid’s punishment, upload it to Internet, and ask everyone to have a laugh about it as he gloats about what a skilled parent he is. This dad is a jerk.

Why should he? He wasn’t the one doing the bullying. Jr got a life’s lesson from dad rather than the end of a fist.

I disagree with putting it on the Internet, but on the balance, he comes out ahead.

Without it, we don’t have this discussion. We can disagree on this part.
