I have long believed that capital punishment should be on the table for any crime which the victim would have been justified in resisting with lethal force.
In such cases, it is the criminal who has placed the value of his life below that of the fruits of the crime. That is not to say it should be sought or applied in all such cases as every case must be weighed on its own merits, but it should at least be available if circumstances warrant it.
