Where Is the Ark of the Covenant?

Last month, if you were visiting Adis Ababa in Ethiopia, you would have witnessed an astonishing sight.

Every January, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates a festival called Timkat, during which their senior priests parade through the streets of Ethiopia’s capital. They carry a replica of the Ark of the Covenant, as onlookers drop to their knees in reverence.

This obscure branch of Christianity has approximately 50 million adherents, most of whom live in Ethiopia. Aside for this sect’s curious affinity to the Hebrew Scriptures and Jewish practices — evident in their observance of kosher laws, separation of the sexes in their churches, and the treatment of Saturday as Sabbath rather than Sunday — they also make the extraordinary claim that the Ark of the Covenant, Judaism’s most revered object, is in their possession — and has been for almost 3,000 years.

Lots of error in this piece.

Graham Hancock's excellent work "The Sign and the Seal" is a detailed study of the events by which the ark wound up in Ethiopia. His analysis is that the ark was removed from the Holy of Holies in the Temple by the priests during the reign of Manasseh, Hezekiah's son and taken to Elephantine, an island in the Nile where a temple was constructed to house it; it then moved initially to an island in Lake Tarah in Ethiopia and ultimately to Aksum. There are letter exchanges between the priests during the Elephantine period and the priests in Babylon during the captivity which support the thesis as well as other evidence in areas along the way. There is further a prophecy in Isaiah 19 which does not appear to have been fulfilled, predicting the transfer of a gift from Ethiopia to the Temple Mount.

The Ark of The Covenant has been in Heaven, as noted in Book of Revelations, see link. In Old Testament, it disappeared and was protected by God himself. Second link explains that history of Ark of Covenant.

It’s only when the ark is opened that they needed to keep their eyes shut. Once the ark was closed it was ok to look at the outside again.

Else as soon as they found it they would have died. Same after they were freed. So doors open, eyes shut; doors closed, eyes open.

Studying the outside alone would have been sufficient for Indy I think - he just wanted to be the one who found it more than anything.

Do not open it, FRiend.

Right... and you believe we are still operating under the old covenant, don't even think of touching it!

2 Samuel 6:3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. 4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. 5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

Really doesn’t matter, the Ark points to Jesus. We have Him now. No needs for shadows.

Mercy seat According to the Hebrew Bible, the mercy seat was the gold lid with two cherubim beaten out of the ends of it to cover and create the space into which God would appear. This gold cover was placed on the Ark of the Covenant. Wikipedia

Does it matter?
New American Standard Bible
“It shall be in those days when you are multiplied and increased in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of the LORD.’ And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it, nor will they miss it, nor will it be made again.

17”At that time they will call Jerusalem ‘The Throne of the LORD,’ and all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the name of the LORD; nor will they walk anymore after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

31”Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.…

I’m inclined to agree, but I’d not heard that about a treasure chest before. Where did you get that from?

II Chronicles 35:3 “And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build...”

The “house” isn’t the Temple. They knew what went in the Temple. It had been there for hundreds of years. “House” should be read as “chamber”, which was hidden.

The Ark is on or near the Temple Mount, “hidden”, perhaps by tunnels that seem to go nowhere.
