A parsec is a measurement of distance. The impressive Kessel run is due to the fact that Kessel, the planet where spice is mined, is right on the edge of the Maw, a cluster of black holes. So a shorter run (fewer parsers) means a more dangerous run skirting closer to the black holes and risking death to make the flight shorter.
